this is what I'm expecting (based on the map of Europa Barbaorum):
Gaul
Germania
Seleucids
Eqypt
Parthia
this is what I'm expecting (based on the map of Europa Barbaorum):
and the correct answer is of course Egypt.
during this period they are no different than lets say Macedon and the only big difference is navy.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
This is what I have hoped for. The egyptians are just the macedonians with a few exotic units and a "very easy" starting position. The seleucids are superior in every way and are really the only true "Hybrid Army" in the game. They have eastern units, a roman unit, hellenic units, maybe even barbarian units aswell. I just don't understand why they have to leave out The Seleucids who are practically Macedon but with all the cool units. I can see a million reasons to leave them in but, I can also see good reasons to leave them out only 8 factions, too big, etc.
Even though it will probably be the hardest faction to play as given the fact that your surrounded on all front by enemies. I honestly think we will play as Bactria before we get to play as the seleucids. Which isn't bad it's a good replacement.
I think when he said farther east they meant Bactria. I mean lusted even put the Bactrians in Terrae Expugnae and in the same mod there was a unified roman faction just like in this game.
I also think we will see Bactrians because it goes along with the current "Not too big factions" theme.
"To the North lies the Etruscan League, and beyond, the Barbarian lands. To the east lie the Greeks, and to the south and west, the Carthaginians…" I'm thinking we'll see Etruria, Gaul, Germania, and Greece. These will be the final four factions', as Carthage is already a playable faction.
I'd agree but I have a feeling the germanic tribes will not be playable.....that'd mean you have 3 barbarian based factions who will more or less share a similar roster/playstyle
Gaul! : )
Its easy to make war with others, its never been easy when we need a peace.
My holy damn simple tactic; Strike First, Strike HARD and SHOW NO MERCY.
A Rome Total War game without Gaul (Arverni) being playable cant be called ''Rome''. So if CA have at least minimum sanity and history knowledge I wouldnt bet on that one being unplayable. And gameplay-wise, as someone stated above, their position is the only one offering the player the option to clash with Romans at an early stage. Arverni (Vercingetorix's and most important gallic tribe) position is also perfect (not too close from Iceni).

"In the case of the ‘Barbarian’ factions there will be unique rosters based on cultures, so the Gallic factions will have different units to the Briton factions who will have different units to the Germanic factions. You will see units with names such as Oathsworn, Naked Warriors, Painted Ones, Heroic Nobles, Sword Brothers and more. Names which have flavour to them and try to communicate some of the nature of the cultures they represent without having to use languages which very very few people understand.
I hope this has help explained more about how we name units, and why we have made the decisions behind that."
I took this from Jack Lusted's thread. He pretty much says outright that Gallic and Germanic tribes will be important barbarian factions, so my thoughts are that they will not be removed for the 8 playable factions. Also CA hinted that they have a surprise for their German fans (Germanic tribe). My guess is that an eastern faction will be cut and added as DLC. Just my thoughts![]()

Under the patronage of Emperor Maximinus Thrax
"Steps to be taken in case Russia should be forced out of war considered. Various movements [of ] troops to and from different fronts necessary to meeting possible contingencies discussed. Conference also weighed political, economic, and moral effect both upon Central and Allied powers under most unfavorable aspect from Allied point of view. General conclusions reached were necessity for adoption of purely defensive attitude on all secondary fronts and withdrawing surplus troops for duty on western front. By thus strengthening western front [those attending] believed Allies could hold until American forces arrive in numbers sufficient to gain ascendancy."
~General Pershing, report to Washington, 26 July 1917
Out of those five, probably the Seleucids.
I would prefer it if the Seleucids and Ptolemies were unplayable-too identical with Macedonia in terms of political and military organization and too powerful starting off. They should be powerful opponents for the player to overcome instead. I'm not going to make any predictions though.
German tribe coz it´s a guaranteed big seller
I fear that it will be the Seleucids. They are too big and will probably become the big bully of the Eastern Factions.
Seleucids you say *sniffs* all i smell is DLC.
Iberians are so out they didn't even get in the "Who's out" poll![]()
Anyway I don't understand how a person can say that Macedon/Egypt/Seleucids are not diverse enough and then with a straight face want Iceni/Gauls/Germanics in.
What difference would these factions have in the roster apart from some chariots, different kinds of naked fanatics and a Germanic spear unit or two?
Not that I don't want Gauls and Germanics but it is a bit irritating.
East has always been richer, culturally established and especially more diverse than the west of this time.
It was only during the Roman Era and Renaissance era that west got ahead. If they ignore the east, they ignore 60% of the era itself.
