    Default Silent hill - review

I just saw Silent hill and I must say that this is easily the best "game to movie" ever made.
I have played the games and enjoyed them very much so I really wanted to see it. I read some reviews which haven't been very good. They thought it was confusing and one review even consisted of nothing but personal attacks against the director . But I read some reviews by other Silent hill fans and they were happy with the film so I decided to see it. And I'm happy that I did because it was great.

The director managed to capture the feeling of the games perfectly. Just seeing the town of Silent hill gave me goosebumps, it is exactly like in the games.

The story is about a married couple and their daughter.
The daughter is a sleep walker and in her sleep screams that she wanna go home to Silent hill.
Worried about their daughter, the mother decided against the father's wises to take her daughter to Silent hill in hope that it will help her. They get to Silent hill and it starts.
That the basic story you need to know
But despite what the reviewers said, the story isn't confusing.

The actors did a good job I think. Only Sean Bean who plays the father did a poor job in this film. He didn't seem right for the role. But the others did good.

The sets are just amazing, directly from the games.
Same with the monsters. Even the sound and music is from the games.

Another thing I was surprised about was how gruesome this movie is.
It doesn't hold back on the gore I promise you that.
I have seen alot of gruesome films in my life but still some scenes in this movie got to me.

Some people have complained that it is too long(the movie is over 2 hours long) but personally I thought it was fine.

Overall this is a great horror movie.
I was really at the edge of my seat when watching it.
And as a gamer I'm very pleased as well since it showed that you can make movies out of games.
All it takes is a director who really understands the game and know what needs to be done.
    Highly recommend this movie.

    9 out of 10

    ROFL

    That movie was horrible

4/10 for not even being lucid or understandable for someone who has never played the games. Not too mention the cheap gore and lack of anything interesting beyond the cool transition from normal world to evil world.

    Understandable.
I suggest going to the IMDB boards, there is a very good guide there for people who didn't understand the movie.

the movie never achieved the game effect...
    Well I thought it did.
The only thing missing IMO is the interaction but that is impossible to capture on a film.

the movie is sooooooooo not scary
    Well I thought it was.
I thought the games were scary and since the movie is close to the games, the feeling came back.

Regardless a movie should not require me to play the games to understand the movie. That fact alone makes the movie a total failure.

I saw the movie and liked it mostly because i played the games, and i can also say that was the best game to movie transition ever. Nothing before it was better. But even if i hadnt played the games before seeing the movie i could have still followed the plot.....really people it wasnt that hard to follow. Just pay attention and dont watch it while drunk or distracted. HGowever i do agree that it wasnt that scary at all, it was more of a cool type of scary i guess you could say. Though of course not the best movie it was still good.

I saw this movie over the weekend, and overall I was pretty impressed. I've not played the games, so I have to admit that I did find it a little confusing initially, but not enough to actually ruin the film.

The production on this movie is top notch, and the director really managed to set a dark and foreboding tone. Lots of washed out colours, industrial decay... good stuff. :
The actors were pretty good as well. A lot of people are slating Sean Bean for his performance, but it was not that bad IMO. His actual acting was good, but his lame attempt at an American accent was kind of laughable. Why not just let him speak in his normal accent? How would that have detracted from the story?

    *Spoilers*

It pretty gory as well. The part where the copper gets burnt alive springs to mind.... that was pretty nasty. Also, the bit where the woman gets her skin ripped off outside the church by that massive demon thingy..
