What should I replace them with? The monks get like 200 kills each.
I don't like cavalry, my great guard just removes enemy cavalry then suicides mainly.

mmm, most players dont do 20k, usualy the standard of play is put at 14k

Learn to play 14 k 20 k usually play nubs and spammers...real competition and tournament set up is 14 k...

Drop the veterancy of those naginata monks, from the top of my head they only get banzai or inspire. If you consider them vital to your strategy, try switching to a 2 attack/4 defense naginata monk (~1400 koku). Also, consider rolling two/four new bow monks, because all you need is reload, accuracy, range and situationally ammo. However, I would keep them, the sniping ability is useful every now and then if you do it right. Upgrade the Great Guards well, they cost a retainer (however I advise against over upgrading them, they can easily get above 2000 koku in a unit that dies really easily), but they will not win a whole lot of cavalry battles, try to support them (I assume thats why the yari samurai is there). I would also swap the yari samurai for 2 yari samurai, a naginata samurai or as 4 naginata attendants, the equivalent price. I'm not familiar with "taracos"? Is that one of the hero units?
