is there a trick to gaining experience in campain?
Just make your men fight a lot and make sure they survive. Thats it really
yeah but is it suppossed to take a long time or what? i mean the gain experience like every 10 battles and i need experienced people now in my julii campain. im really screwed in it right now and i need experience![]()
i run down with cavalry tho and i need good legions
Well then it might take a while, i usually have to wait 20 years to get one legion nearly up to gold chevrons, and they usually dont stay like that all the time because of retraining. Reall the key is to just keep them fighting and keep the from dying, get them some kills without them taking any!Originally Posted by augustusingreen

Units get experience based on kills, even if every kill is on a routing unit. So just kill a lot basically.
Also, the higher the building level, the more experience the units will get when they are created (though this might not be with vanilla. I haven't played it in a while). Certain types of temples help also.
And blacksmiths for weapon upgrades

yes but the problem is i need experienced legions in my julii campaim immediatly or im screwed
well, i played my roman campaign as the brutii. the best way to build units with experience is to make a temple to a war god. (ares, mars, maybe vulcan?) those buildings make the troops start out with it. Then, you can retrain the units you've already made in those towns, and they will get the exp bonus, too. But if you really want exp, the way to do it is in the battle map. What you want to do is envelop the entire enmy squad in troops, so that the enemy fights to the death instead of routs. If youre smart, you can pull this off with troops, but its easier with cavalry. the key is to decimate as many troops as you can with as few men as possible. If you use a lot of infantry, they wont get very many kills between them, and so gain less exp. Try fighting battles with only a couple squads of infantry, so that you get more kills per man. Softening up enemies with fire arrows is a good tactic because it doesnt kill very many enemies, but makes it easier for your infantry to rout (kill) them. Finally, when you take losses, if you are carful about how you merge units (instead of just pushing the 'm' button), you can get more experienced units. Whenever you have a partial squad that has experience, you can trade unexpierenced troops in a full squad for those experienced troops. Sometimes, that is enough to add one or two chevrons onto a full squad. Merging is truly an art to learn, but will definatly help your troops exp when you get the hang of it. Good luck.

there's really no simple way to get experience for infantry when playing julii. one way I did is to use spies on barbarian towns. if the town has a temple that will end up giving experience to units you can leave that town alone until it expands and the barbarians build up the temple to its largest level then conquer it (this can be quite hard on the higher difficulty because the units coming out of that town will be the best units and highly experienced ones). then retrain ur units in the city (make sure you don't use extermination on the town or you might not be able to retrain the units). then u can build your own temple or keep that one for as long as you want to give your units some experience (the amount they'll get will vary from 1-3 but it is better than nothing).
auto resolving gets experince quick. Sometimes two or three experince a battle. :happy0144

It may give you quick experience but you lose way to many men.
Well not always, sometimes you dont lose many, but it also matters on the battle difficulty setting for the campaign.Originally Posted by PhalanxPhlattener
