Default "Code: 1" error in Mod Manager

Since I haven't been playing Shogun 2 for almost an year, when I tried to open it again Steam started to patch it. My mods
were also outdated, so I decided to reinstall Shogun 2 completely. When I finished, I got this "Failed to initialise Steam
connection! (code:1)" in the Mod Manager, so I decided to delete the game, delete Steam, reinstall Steam (which also had
quite an old installation) and reinstall Shogun 2 completely. Now I am STILL getting this damn error message. The game
is not modded, I don't have any DLC installed or bought. What the hell do I have to do?

Check my other topic too, if you have a second. Thank you.

Did you delete both shogun2 folders before reinstalling?

Mhh "both"? I deleted the one under /steamapps/ and some files under /roaming/The Creative Assembly/, do I need to
    delete everything?

    Everything for a clean install.
Also, afterwards if it does not start, check the modified.txt.

The modified.txt is empty. Very well, I will uninstall, completely delete these two folders and then reinstall. Thank you for
the help, I'll be back in 4-5 hours.

Just finished downloading. I installed, "completed" the installation via Steam, then rebooted the pc. After reboot, I ran
Shogun 2, in the top right corner it didn't say "modded". I closed Shogun 2, opened the main Steam page, then ran
ModManager.exe: "Failed to initialise Steam connection! (code:1)". Nothing changed.

Modded in this sense means http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=552271.
    Check your modified.txt.

No, I wrote that it didn't say "modded".

    Okay, my fault.
    Check that text file anyway.
Be sure you can start a campaign before playing with mods as most are now in the cloud.

The modified.log was empty even before I reinstalled, why should it have anything written in it now that I even completely
deleted those two folders and the game says it's not modded? Checked: it has nothing written in it, 0 byte. And yes, I can
start a campaign, the game runs fine and has no errors, it's the Mod Manager that doesn't work.

Post there, then. I know nothing about it.

... listen, I thank you for your help, but seriously, it's the damn thread title. Post "there", where? It's a technical problem, not
a mod problem, since I don't have any installed. It's like the Mod Manager and Steam can't communicate. I even tried running both
as Administrator, not to mention that they are installed under pretty much the same folder.

Welllll, then, this is up to someone else. I have yet to use the ModManger and probably won't. I haven't even searched for it. ModManagers I'm used to are member made and supported, not CA.

    have you asked at http://forums.totalwar.com?

Not really, because all of the threads that have been opened in the past and that I can find with Google have never had
an issue like this, because it usually got resolved by simply reinstalling or deleting the files noted in the modified.log. By
the way, all I would like to use are some .pack mods (but not movies.pack, for example one is Antons_Views_of_Fuji.pack)
and most probably the DarthMod, which has its own launcher. Is it possible to use these with an alternate launcher, or
modifying some game file to make it recognize the mods? What ModManagers do you use?

It could easily be that this ModManager.exe is completely useless for what I need, as I said I haven't been playing for
more than a year, so I really don't know about it, if you use some mods I think you should know about this.

irishron: He's talking about the CA supplied ModManager.exe which was added with the Steam Workshop integration.

Saudade of Sunday: You don't run ModManager.exe yourself. To use mods either subscribe to them via Steam Workshop or drop mod packs into your data folder. In either case when you launch the game it will run ModManager.exe and allow you to choose which mods are enabled.

For some weird reason I've been missing this post until now. I'm quite positive that I read somewhere that not all mods work
anymore in this way, but I'm going to give it a try. The simplest solution was to actually just try and see, thank you, mate.

A little over a year ago was when RotS was released along with the Flash, awesomium/Chrome incredbar fiasco that we are still dealing with on an almost daily basis, yet.
The shogun2.exe has changed so many times since then, I have only been able to get in two or three turns before my savegames become useless. No mods until CA says, "This is the last patch, DLC, expansion" because of it. If RL cuts me a break, maybe then.

Meh, what a mess. So you're telling me that .pack mods are useless and more or less impossible to use because of compatibility?
I don't think I'm going to buy another CA game for quite some time, too many problems with this one. Do you know anyone who
uses .pack mods with or without the built-in manager?

No, I don't unless you go back before Empire.
Medieval2 and Rome mods don't use packs.
