Medival II Total war launch errors

Hey all I have installed the game via steam. My operating system is windows 8 and I have the gold edition so I have all of the expansions. I am going to give you a step by step process of what I encounter. When I launch the game the launcher comes up. I click on the main game or an expansion and either one of 2 things, a second launcher or the error failed to launch game app is already running. Help is greatly appreciated as I need to solve this problem to install the mods for TATW.

Have you opened Task Manager to see if it is running?

lol yeah thats how i know that its not running. also while confirming that 2 launchers are running.
