Victory Conditions met - but game continues

(My apologies if this is a beginner question... I didn't see an answer after a brief search.)

I'm playing a full campain, average skill level, as the High Elves. And I've met all listed 'Victory Conditions' with about 75 turns to spare. I expected the game to end as soon as I captured the last territory owned by Mordor.

But the game didn't end.

I even received the announcements of 'Barad-dur being overthrown...', and 'Sauron no longer has a foothold in the west...', etc.. But the game still goes on. I triple-checked, and Mordor had 0 territories left. [The other victory conditions were met long ago... eliminating the OotMM and holding a handful of specific territories.]

When I took the final territory of other nations (Isengard, OotMM, OoG), their field armies all disbanded.
But Mordor was different. Its field armies didn't disband. There were still about 5 full stacks wandering about in Mordor. (even with the announcements above)

A turn or two later I received a message saying "lesser evil creatures" were looking for a new foothold. So these 5 full stacks eventually took 1 lightly defended territory back and re-established a Mordor territory.

So what exactly do I have to do to finish the game? Again,...I was assuming it would end as soon as the Victory Conditions were met. But perhaps I misread something?

they have horded i think. you havent ddefeated mordor before all their armies are defeated

The game is finished. The popup message informs you of this. Pressing OK allows you to keep playing the game if you wish, but you already won.

The horde event is there for interest purposes if you wish to keep playing but is not part of the campaign.

wow. I guess I totall missed that part of the -end- message.
I was totally expecting a "do you wish to continue anyway" message. But again, I guess I just selectively read the prompt. :-(

In the next version, your computer will explode when the victory conditions are met.

Actually you will get a Victory Message and the option to continue when you win. The Sauron has fallen is a standard message when you destroy the One Ring.

I believe you have to destroy the resurgent Mordor, then you will win, but it is a while since I won myself- or even played.
