Game borked after installing and uninstalling mods

I decided to try out a couple of Kingdoms mods from this site, Kingdoms Grand Campaign Mod and Rule Britannia mod. I installed them and then the client wouldn't start. So I uninstalled them (via windows program uninstall) and that seemed to work fine, except now I can run the game but it won't start after I select a faction and hit begin. It just goes backs to the menu screen and freezes.

Really annoyed with these big mods now, I have had such bad experiences with them. Sure I can uninstall the game and reinstall it, but that's a massive hassle. Why are these mods so godam buggy

For those mods, delete their mod folder in the Medieval II total War\mods folder.
One reason I don't put an uninstaller in my mod.
For their desktop icons and Start\Program entries, right-click and delete.
for the other problem, delete its map.rwm.
