Defending Minas Ithil
I'm facing a Mordor army attacking from the west. I believe they're returning from an invasion attempt of Umbar, and I'm totally lost in how to assemble the defenses. I can't put my archers atop the battlements, and while I did manage to force a few AI units to flee, I'm getting overwhelmed. Is there a specific strategy to defend Minas Ithil?

Re: Defending Minas Ithil
You're in luck! There are no guides for defending custom settlements, except this.

That guide is over 3 years old; does Minas Ithil still look like that? Minas Morghul's custom map looks nothing like that, but does it change once Gondor captures it and changes it to Minas Ithil?

Re: Defending Minas Ithil
The settlement in the guide isnt the current Minas Morgul/Ithil..
What I usually do is basically spearmen and cheap militia at the front, heavy units right behind them, and swordsmen/javelin throwers left and right, all this is arranged right infront of the gate.
you cant hope to shoot arrows at units outside the castle so put your archers in the far left and far right corners of the castle and wait til they come in as a big blob through the gate and fire away, even cheap archers will get many kills. but make sure your archers are firing, if not change their position slightly.

Re: Defending Minas Ithil
I usually put my archers behind the main gate, at its lefta and right, but at the back so that they are not frightened, and one stack of archers just in front of the inner gate. I do not let the fire, till the enemy units are entering. If you have some infantry units, circle the gate, leaving some distance from the gate so aw to avoid your arrows.
Most times I use this tactic, the enemy units turn quickly to frightened, wavering and routing as the small passage minas ithil gives, do not let many of the enter. This DOES NOT happen, if there are heavy units as olog hai or nazguls... but it works better than any other tactic I used.
TIP: Do not order your infantry to attack using this tactic, let them come to you. You will avoid the arrows and the enemy wont. You should also stop them for "firing at will" if they are out of the city.
Which units do you have and which units are you facing ?
