SEGA has agreed to purchase THQ , developer of Company of Heroes and 40,000: Dawn of War.
This follows previous news of this ... SEGA AND CREATIVE ASSEMBLY ANNOUNCE PARTNERSHIP WITH GAMES WORKSHOP TO CREATE WARHAMMER GAMES ... can anyone see a pattern here??

So Vigil and Relic gets split apart? so we are not going to get a new 40k title

but it looks like that Sega dont get the rights to make a new 40k title

The work that you all have done as part of the THQ family is imaginative, creative, artistic and highly valued by our loyal gamers. We are proud of what we have accomplished despite today's outcome.

omg I got tears in my eyes

Sega paid 24 million or something for Relic, which was the highest paid amount for any of the studios sold. To be honest it sounds like Sega are in for the long haul.

26.6 Million actually, just 300K more than Zenimax Media (which owns Bethesda)..

Overall, it will probably mean nothing for CA in the long run, unless Sega makes a deal for the 40K license from GW, and let CA make the game rather than Relic.

Or, Relic could make a Total War type game using CA's engine, could be possible as it's all one big happy family now, lol.

I like the idea of a CA taking over rather than the machine that is EA... rest in peace Westwood.

I'm thinking that this can't be anything but good, seeing that they're probably going to produce all of the Warhammer games from now on, in addition to whatever style of RTS they want. They've got a pretty safe base to work from, and hopefully in the coming years we'll see some good titles.

    But here's hoping I'm right.

Creative Assembly will continue to work on its own IPs, exactly like Relic will?

Seems the most logical solution to me.

Nothing in the paticular, but SEGA wants to advance their PC and Strategy Games portfolio with Relic. If some Analyst come in a few year to the conclusion that this Portfolio is to big for the actual situation, than SEGA could sell the one or other Company.

But i would never have fear in the case of CA. The franchise is strong enough to survive a Publisher Change, specially after they are more Independent than the most Studious. Remember that CA were also part of EA and Activision (if i am correct) before they came to SEGA. Both former Publishers tought also that PC Strategy is an endless hole to burn money

Proud to be a real Prussian.

Nothing. Sega has bought Relic, but the license for W40K has not followed with them, since it is Games Workshop property. Sega will have to broker a new deal with GW to make games based on W40K. The only franchise Relic brought with them into Sega is COH. THQ acquired the Homeworld license from activision in 2007 and Sega only bought Relic and thus Company of Heroes. Nearly of all the people who worked on the homeworld games have left Relic. A lot of them now works for Blackbird Interactive and thus Homeworld should be acquired by them, they have the original artists and designers at BBI.

Those Dawn of War games got repetitive and boring, nothing new were added to them, fewer and fewer races were added to the sequels. Any future W40K rts should be about massive galactic war with planet conquests and full out purging of Xenos. A W40K Epic game! with titans and aircraft support.

The OP is mumbling. Sega who now owns Relic, will have to broker a agreement with GW before they can allow their new subsidiary (relic) to develope any games based on W40K. Since the W40K license did not follow Relic in the sale. Only COH franchise followed with Relic over to Sega.

Yes, I approve because it's likely the best outcome (given the circumstances) for Relic and the Company of Heroes franchise, of which I am a fan. It's a damned sight better than them getting bought up by EA, for example.

I'm not sure what the implications for CA/TW are, though.

I thought SEGA had some little financial issue ?

I just hope there won't be any cross game easter eggs. I liked THQ games before their content begun too ridiculous. I may consider to buy again one of their game. But SEGA need first to stop their DLC crap.
