Will Medieval Total War be playable on a Mac?
You mean Medieval 2 Total War right? Not sure but I think the PC version will come first, then the Mac.
I don't think it will, none of the total war games have been on Mac.
Yes, but Mac is starting to become popular again, I'm pretty sure I heard a Mac Version was coming out, but it would be 3-6 months later than Windows, but that is rumor not fact.
Hope that helps![]()
Will it be playable on a mac, then? I remember playing tomb raider on a mac like 5 years after it first came out, and it looked like crap because the mac I played it on was brand new but didn't have a 3d accelerator... I also played warcraft 2 on a mac about 10 years ago and every time you clicked a unit or whenever a sound played, the cd music restarted from the beginning of the track. SO annoying. Of course, now that they use intel processors, and now that you can use windows on a mac, I don't see a reason why you shouldn't be able to play a pc game on it...
Reality is that Coding games for macs means extra time and money being spent on the game.
And since the gaming market is so little on macs (and i mean realy bloody little)... I doubt a relatively "small" company like CA are going to go to that extra effort for what might not even be a financial gain...
(by little i mean that if you take every TW game... halo1/doom3/farcry etc.... probably outsold the entire series)
Now no doubt somebody is going to come along and "blah blah blah.. macs are just as good as pc's as window machines blah blah blah"
Simple fact is that there are not millions of mac gamers, they are very few in number wich above any other reason means most games never get a mac version...
Its like splitting the windows community into different bits...
Those who play games -> Those who spend potentialy thousands of pounds on keeping their comps playing the TW games -> those who like RTS games -> Those who pick TW above other rts games -> your final number of TW buyers.
Now, seeing as the mac gaming community is a lot smaller your effectively cutting down the odds of a TW mac player by a large amount.
But hey... if a Mac versions getting made... GG and HF... its just that i would doubt it.
can i ask why did u even buy a mac pc? lol..
You can play ANY pc game or use any Windows app if you have any of the new generation Macs since they use the Intel processors now. Just make a partion with windows and youre off. http://www.apple.com/macpro/.
The only thing stopping me from getting one is the price.
Funny you should ask this, but i got an email from my Gamespy newsletter a while ago, Unfortunately i deleted the email now, but ill try to find something on it, Basically it told about a small company that was working on some conversion kit or something to that effect to provide PC game makers with that would allow relatively cheap and simple conversion of PC games to Mac. They're vision was to allow every PC game to eventually come out with a Mac equivalent in the near future.
Knight_yellow did make an excellent point though, and that is that the Mac gaming market is very small, so im not sure how successful it would be IF it gets implemented, still something worth crossing your fingers for if you are a mac owner
Hello chaps, I'm usually a lurker but I just had to post...
I use a macbook pro laptop, and it's dual boot ( so I can run windows if I'm willing to put up with it ) and play PC games. So far out of the 15 or so times I've played RTW ( with Darthmod 8 ) it's been running like a dream. It's like playing a whole new game and I can run everything at the max. It's amazing how things can run on a quality machine. ( my old PC never ran RTW this good at all ). No CTD at all yet, ( and no blue screens of death for Windows either )
So, with this experience in mind, I'm literally frothing at the mouth to see how the machine will play MTW2. Bloody good I would assume.
If you can afford it as a mac user, or a PC user that wants a quality machine, use bootcamp and split your system to run some PC games.
agree, MACs are not good for much really unless you are specialised or a really basic userBecause it is more dependable, more capable, better equipped, and more fun to use. A PC has absolutely no advantage over a Mac... Name just one advantage. Try. Please, amuse me, name one advantage of a PC over a Mac.can i ask why did u even buy a mac pc? lol..
Well, okay, I admit that they are more expensive. But the general consensus is that because they are more dependable and better equipped, they are worth the price increase. They also (generally) tend to cost less for businesses to run because they don't need a giant IT department running anything, but that's another argument.
But without mentioning the price (10-20% increase) name one advantage PC's have over Macs.
Just as a sidenote, I felt the same way you did a year ago. I never thought a Mac would be anything but a memory of one of the first computers I used. But after using both for the past year, I've really "switched." The only reason you believe that is because that's what you hear about Macs. I'm sure both of you really haven't tried using a Mac in a while, if ever.
As far as a "really basic user" goes, advanced photo/video/sound editing (in general all professional multimedia tools) are all on the Macs and accessible to general users. GarageBand is used by musicians, but I can enjoy it as well. The Macintosh stereotypes are just not true. What is true is that a Mac is both capable and easier to use than a PC - Do you know how long setting up a network takes in a PC? A couple of minutes for a experienced user, perhaps a half an hour for an amature, and the basic might need to hire someone. How long does it take in a Mac? I don't know, it does it automatically. In seconds.
I know in a nerd context it is unorthodox, but anyone who has used a Mac for more than a few seconds will agree: A Mac is better, in almost every way.
Edit: I feel this discussion leaning towards a move to the Basement.
Not to mention the fact that you can runs Windows on a Mac as well.
Honestly, Macs are faster and now they have Windows...maybe I should switch.![]()
You said it Zuwiv.
Macs are like the sports cars of the computer world. Every part in it is properly designed to work with every other part, and be good quality. Hence the price difference and performance difference. PCs are generally cobbled together parts from many sources, even when on comparable specs, hence some problems there. The big difference for me is the OS. Windows still uses 1980's tech, BIOS is so outdated it's not funny, and windows actively sucks up your system resources for itself, leaving you with a weaker machine for your own apps. ( I use both macs and PCs too )
Now that I can play PC games on my mac ( as a gloried PC using windows, yes ) I can safely say I need never put up with a PC and all the problems and lost work that come from it again.
RTW never looked so good on my macbook pro...bring on MTW2!
I heard that running a PC and a Mac really slow down your Computer...
And if I didn't play games as much, I probably would get a Mac. (My mom is getting one in her house though)

I heard that Macs were impossible/very difficult to upgrade, is there any truth to that?Because it is more dependable, more capable, better equipped, and more fun to use. A PC has absolutely no advantage over a Mac... Name just one advantage. Try. Please, amuse me, name one advantage of a PC over a Mac.
I dont know a lot about Macs, but i do know that they have a lot of good points to them, and they are almost always used by any graphic design employee, is it possible to upgrade video cards etc without just buying a brand new Mac? Im a PC user, but only because thats all i know, and i cant seem to get my head around the difference in macs (only one mouse button!? you eject a cd How?! Why am i on fire? etc)
Can't speak for all macs, but generally speaking, the "need to upgrade issue" is a PC one. At least in mindset. Apart from the customizing options you may have at pointof purchase, there's very, very little ever in need of upgrading on a mac, since it all comes together. What makes them what they are is that all the parts are designed to work properly, and cohesively with each other so there's never clash issues etc. A PC's parts of course, can be sourced from anywhere and everywhere and people expect to have to replace/ugrade components all the time. Of course, you definitely pay for it in the price of a Mac.Originally Posted by MadeManG74

I have yet to test too many games on my windows partitioned macbook pro, but so far no problems at all with RTW. The graphics card in the mac works fine with it etc. The frame rates at first made me drool. ( Though I never had a game augmented PC to play it on so maybe it was just my crappy old computer. )
Macs also now have more than one button. Besides which, you can use any mouse on a mac. No adjustment there at all. Biggest issue is getting used to the new OS. It can be hard at first only because it's a bit of a mindwarp. You have to get used to doing things more easily....not being arrogant...that's just the best way I can explain it.
Long live dual boot systems. Now I can have my mac and eat it too. ( and play RTW while traveling on business, yeehaw! )
When Macs used the Power PC chips, it was only possible to run Windows through an emulator, which was slow because OSX was running in the background. But the new Macs can run Windows natively, so they are actually just as fast as they should be. Of course, more RAM and a faster processor will make it faster, but the comparible PC is the same speed, exactly as expected.Originally Posted by Shazbot
As far as the updating thing, it isn't as necessary to update a Mac. It is a little weird to think of it like that. But if you need to, you can upgrade it. Adding more RAM is common. You do not have the level of customibility of PC's, and it can be a little more expensive. (Unless you know the right places to look, Newegg always has the best prices on everything) Upgrading is certainly possible, but not as necessary.
(I hate to take the side of the Mac Fanboy, but I guess that's what I'm turning into)
