Faction specific units help
Hey guys I'm new here and I have been reading everything but I can't find an answer to my question. I'm trying to edit units that are owned by multiple factions and make them owned by only one faction. For example the Alemmani Berserker (can't remember exact name right now) can be recruited by Alemanni, Lombardi and Burgundii also. I want it to be unique to Alemanni. The obvious answer was to simply delete the faction name from the owner section in export_descr_unit but this causes the game to crash so I assume there's more to it. However, sometimes the game does not crash (don't know why) but it always crashes if I do that for a recruitable general/warlord. How would I get around this?
Thanks.

Re: Faction specific units help
First of all, welcome to TWCenter. About your question, you have to edit the descr_buildings .txt file so the unit you want can be provided to the faction(s) within the brackets. Simply delete the other factions and take care the spaces in the text.

S'euxaristw file mou.
Thank you.
One more question...or two :-)
Do I do the same thing for the slaves or is that different since they randomly spawn? And also if I want warlords to still be available to all their original factions but separately (unique to each one) how do I do that? They are built by the same buyilding. Would I have to give them specific names?

Re: Faction specific units help
I don't get it about slaves. What do you mean? About the warlords, do you mean different soldiers for each faction? If so, you have to make new units for each faction but it's tiring job to make their model, their texture, their unit cards e.t.c.

Re: Faction specific units help
About the slaves, some units also belong to the slave faction. For example:
type levy spearman saxon
dictionary levy_spearman_saxon ; Levy Spearmen
category infantry
class spearmen
voice_type Light_1
soldier levy_spearman_barbarian, 60, 0, 1.1
attributes sea_faring, hide_forest
formation 1, 1, 2, 2, 4, square, shield_wall
stat_health 1, 0
stat_pri 11, 4, javelin, 50, 3, thrown, archery, piercing, spear, 25 ,1
stat_pri_attr prec, thrown
stat_sec 7, 4, no, 0, 0, melee, simple, piercing, spear, 25 ,0.73
stat_sec_attr light_spear, spear_bonus_4
stat_pri_armour 2, 5, 3, flesh
stat_sec_armour 0, 2, flesh
stat_heat 2
stat_ground 1, -2, 3, 2
stat_mental 5, normal, untrained
stat_charge_dist 30
stat_fire_delay 0
stat_food 60, 300
stat_cost 1, 333, 115, 40, 60, 370
ownership slave, saxons
So the Saxons can train this unit, but it will also spawn for the slaves. My question is do I remove slave ownership in the same way even though they don't "train" the units or do I do it differently.
For the Warlords:
type chosen warlord alemanni
dictionary chosen_warlord_alemanni ; Chosen Warlord
category cavalry
class heavy
voice_type General_1
soldier chosen_warlord, 12, 0, 1
mount generals horse
mount_effect elephant -4, camel -4
attributes sea_faring, general_unit, hide_forest, hardy, power_charge
formation 1.5, 4, 3, 6, 3, square
stat_health 2, 0
stat_pri 13, 6, no, 0, 0, melee, blade, piercing, sword, 25 ,1
stat_pri_attr no
stat_sec 0, 0, no, 0, 0, no, no, no, none, 25 ,1
stat_sec_attr no
stat_pri_armour 6, 10, 4, metal
stat_sec_armour 0, 0, flesh
stat_heat 4
stat_ground 0, -2, -4, 2
stat_mental 13, impetuous, trained
stat_charge_dist 50
stat_fire_delay 0
stat_food 60, 300
stat_cost 3, 1314, 201, 120, 180, 1160
ownership slave, alemanni, lombardi, burgundii
This warlord belongs to 3 factions plus the slaves. What I want to do is make it so that each faction would have this unit but separately so I can give each factions warlord different stats.
For example:
type chosen warlord alemanni
dictionary chosen_warlord_alemanni ; Chosen Warlord
ownership alemanni
type chosen warlord alemanni
dictionary chosen_warlord_alemanni ; Chosen Warlord
ownership lombardi
type chosen warlord alemanni
dictionary chosen_warlord_alemanni ; Chosen Warlord
ownership burgundii
But since they are all trained by the same bulding I can't remove them from export_descr_bulding.txt or the came would crash.
I hope I am making sense....
EDIT:: Sorry, but it still crashes on me. I remove the faction names from the unit.txt and the bulding.txt for the specific units I want to be available only to certain factions yet it still crashes on me when I save on end turn.

Re: Faction specific units help
About the slaves, delete the following: I. in export_descr_unit .txt file, go to the ownership line and delete the faction you want. II. in descr_buildings, find the building(s) that produce the specific unit and delete the faction you want. III. finally in descr_model_battle, find the unit and delete the texture responding to the faction you want to be unavailable to train it. As i said, pay special attention to the spaces in the .txt files! You may have correctly done the job, but a space can ruin it. Also use the " -show_err" in the shortcut's path.
For the warlords, since 3 factions share the same unit i don't think you may edit it as you want. Otherwise, make new warlords for each faction with the attributes you want.
