    Default Reforms - upgrading?

    Hello fellow romans
I have recently resumed playing Rome Total War, man, it's just as fun as it was a year ago
    Now on to the topic:
I'm now playing a Brutii campign(RTW version 1.5, medium diffculty, no mods) and the Millitary reforms just occured...
The problem is that I have thousands, and when I say thousands I MEAN thousands of "pre-reforms" units - Hastati, Principi, Triarri, Archers, Equites...
Is there anyway, that I can upgrade the "old" units to the new units?
If not, is there a mod which makes that possible?

Thanks for helping(you will help, right? :<)

No, you can not upgrade the old units to the new ones, and there is no mod that does anything like that. Youll just have to keep them, send them to fight or disband them. If you want Marian units you have to recruit them from scratch.

That's annoying, and quite wierd if you ask me..
Can there even be a mod that does that?

nope i dont even think you can make a mod to do that... probably hardcoded anyway.... but the easiest way for me to get rid of the hastati and all those pre marian units is to just keep sending them into battle.. or if they're to far away from the frontline i just put them in a city and leave them there as a garrison... or if you dont want to pay money for them and need some population in a city... move the units into the city and disband them in there...

It is better to just have them stay as their premarian forms anyway, you can do much more with them, just like flip has said. There is no way to change them, so i would suggest not to bother with it. I just dont see how you can think of it as bad....oh well....

When I play as Rome I usually use them a garrison. One thing I didn't know, disbanded units increases population.. Now i'm enlighted

And you don't need to disband in a settlement. Just in the region you want to increase the population in...and hey presto!

I cant believe i'm the only one who thought about it, I mean think about it,
In REAL rome, after the reforms I'm sure that they didn't just throw the Hastatis away....
They probably just gave them new equipment and voila!
    bah that's annoying :<

Your not the only one to have thought about it, its just that this sort of thing is hardcoded so modders can't change it.

Yeah, it's really a pain in the ass to disband all your early Republican legions but what else can you do right? Thank God it's only a one time deal for every Roman campaign.

usually i just shift all my pre-marian troops to my most isolated front (Germany or Spain usually if i'm playing as Julii) and keep them there until i can replace them. usually i wind up with two armies out there, with one fighting and the other 'carrying' replacements. in the mean time i train post marian troops as fast as i can until i can replace my field armies. at that point any surviving hastati, principes, etc usually wind up grouped together as my capital's garrison.

I tend to use pre Marian troops just the same as cohorts. they're better than most barbarian/egyptian etc. infantry, so why leave them to rot? cohorts should take preference over principes and hastati though

Marian units are the units that the Romans get after the Marian reforms.
