Default Game crashes in Menu and in Battle

    Hi all!

Recently downloaded the game and am eager to get into it! Unfortunately I've have a couple bugs which have been causing me problems.

Bug 1: Can't load custom battles. In the main menu the moment I click on Single Player -> custom battle, the game either freezes or crashes entirely. No error messages. Does anybody have any advice?

Bug 2: Crashes in battle. In battle the game crashes when certain game animations occur (for example, right as dwarven axethrowers launch their missile. Will try to follow some advice from past threads, but was wondering if anybody else had this problem and if a specific fix would help.

    Thanks!

Hi there an welcome to TWC forums!

This sounds like wrong installation of TATW..

    1. What Windows do you have?

    2. Is you M2TW steam or non steam version?

    3. Does your M2TW and Kingdoms work?

    4. What is the correct folder path where your M2TW is installed? ( is it C:\ Program Files(x86)\ or steam\etc.., tell us the exact one).

    Hi Elven!

    1.) Windows 8
    2.) Steam version
    3.) Yep both work
    4.) C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War\mods\teutonic

The filepath I chose when I ran the install of TATW parts 1, 2, and patches 3.1 and 3.2 was to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War\mods. This resulted in a filepath like this C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War\mods\mods\Third_Age_3. I then cut the Third_Age_3 folder out of the new "mods" folder and pasted it in with the other mods. I installed the MOS full install directly into the Third_Age_3 folder.

    Thanks!

Also another quick question. I see there's an uninstall icon for the MOS add-on in the Third_Age_3 folder. If I want to re-install my Third Age directory, is it as simple as deleting the data folder and re-installing to that location? Cheers

Problem is that you installed it wrong, you have two mods folders instead of one:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War\mods\mods\Third_Age_3.

    1. Uninstall MOS using Start\ All Programs\ MOS 1.4\ Uninstall.

    2. Uninstall TATW using Control Panel\ Uninstall Program.

3.Delete manually that second mods\Third_Age_3 folder which is not needed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War\mods\ folder.

    4. Unhide hidden folders (follow this How to Unhide hidden folders on Windows: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...59#post8287059)

If you can`t see the picture in that post, then this is how to do it:
On your DESKTOP, click on START in the bottom left corner, in Search Programs and Files type in Folder Options, click on Folder Options, go to VIEW section, and in Hidden files and folders check the box next to SHOW hidden files, folders or drives. Apply, and OK.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    5. THIS IS IMPORTANT: disable UAC (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...59#post8287059) go to section `How to fix it` and apply step 3 for this main Medieval 2 TW folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War

6.Use this method to install TATW:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    1. Install all parts of TATW (3.0 Part 1, 3.0 Part 2, 3.1, and 3.2) by using the ˝........˝ button to browse ALL THIRD AGE INSTALLERS to DESKTOP ( Don`t create any folder on DESKTOP, it will create its own folder named mods) . Find this mods folder on your DESKTOP, open it and inside you will find Third_Age_3 folder.

    2. Then copy\paste the Third_Age_3 folder to the Steam/Steamapps/Common/Medieval II Total War/mods folder.

    3. Then rename one of the Kingdoms campaigns to something else, like change americas to americas2.

    4. Then rename the Third _Age_3 folder to americas. Finally, select the americas campaign from the Steam menu and the mod should launch.

If you want to install MOS too, use this method:

    1. Download the version you want ( either FULL INSTALLER or MORE THAN ONE PART version).
Just don`t download into your M2TW folder!

    2. Double mouse click on MOS INSTALLER\ INSTALLERS, use the ˝........˝ button to browse MOS INSTALLER\ INSTALLERS to the location of your Third_Age_3 folder ( in STEAM case, it should be Steam/ Steamapps/ Common/ Medieval II Total War/ mods/ YOUR RENAMED KINGDOMS CAMPAIGN).

    3. Run Cleaner.bat after installing each part, and after installing each patch.

    4. Use the Steam menu to launch your MOS\ RENAMED KINGDOMS.

Thanks for the help, unfortunately after I ran through your steps still had the same problem. Any other reasons for unspecified error to occur during certain attack animations?

Try this (FIRST, make a backup of your steam\....\Medieval 2 Total War\ data\ models_missile folder):
The "models_missile" folder ( from Third Age 3\ Your renamed Kingdoms campaign) has to be copied to the normal ".../Medieval II Total War/data" folder.
