    Default Spitballing: Latinokratia

Me and LM had an idea for a Latin Empire RPG a while back, so here it is:

Latin Empire, 1214. Set Shortly after theTreaty of Nymphaeum, the Latin Empire, ruled by Henry of Flanders, exerts full dominance over Greece, surrounded by the various Greek Successor states and Italian republics. With the Latin empire struggling to recruit Frankish Knights and troops of a reliable disposition, it is forced to rely heavily on Mercenaries, Greek Levies, and the Italians.

    Map:

Here are a few basic features:
    Orthodox Rebellions
    Possible crusades
Piety Stat (controls the conversion levels of the province, determines religious rebellions, religious followings etc)
    Enhanced Feudal system

    Feudal Heirarchy:
    Emperor
    King
    Prince
    Duke
    Count
    Baron
    Knight

Each player would basically start of as a knight, save for the Prince of Achaea, the King of Thessalonika, and the duke of Athens, which will be decided by lottery. The players would be able to work their way up the feudal ladder to the position of emperor, a position easy to gain but hard to keep inside the family.

Of course, this is just a concept, so no ideas have been worked out yet. Heck, I don't even know if this is gonna be the layout.

EDIT: on second thought, should I make a social group?

Everyone must know that I will be playing as Henri de Flanders who is the Latin Emperor.

I get the hard task of having a male heir (seeing as Latin Emperors did not reign for long), maintaining control over the Greeks and the Latin pilgrims (which causes trouble), ensuring our borders are secure (against a resurging Bulgaria and Byzantine Empire as well as the Turks with other Greek nations) and trying to gain reinforcements from other Western nations.

Though the Kingdom of Thessalonica, Duchy of Athens and Principality of Achaea were independent nations, the Emperor of the Latin Empire held overlordship over them and they were de jure vassals of him with a semi-autonomous rule (able to declare their own wars and maintain their own militaries). They paid homage to the Latin Emperor. Sort of like Plantagenet Kings paid homage to the French King as de jure vassals of the French King while controlling Aquitaine.

This idea may replace Deus Vult's current setting.

This seems more like a concept proposal. I believe a social group would be more adequate as the Guidelines say that proposals must be nearly finished when a thread is created in the Consulate

    I like it, though

Have you made a group? I'd be interested to get involved with the concepts and ideas. DV had some nice ideas, and was fun, but there were a few things missing from it. Anyhow, put me down as interested.

Don't forget ship levies. And Genoa and Venice were major players. Perhaps they should be included?

They will come in due course. But no Italian republic players. They are not playable under any circumstances. You can play AS a venetian, but not as Venice.

Btw, feel free to join the social group and put ideas forward. The character rules will be up soon. The gods of luck willing, this should be up by the end of the week.

That sounds cool. How will Venice be represented?

The Latin Empire had no navy or a small one so had to mostly rely upon Venice who took the forces of the Third Crusade to attack the Byzantine Empire and took much of the treasures of Constantinople as a payment for their naval services. Including land that was given to them by the Latin Emperor, Baldwin I.
