Default How to deal with invasions?

I'm currently playing as Gondor, and Sauron declared an invasion on Umbar...cue tens (rough estimate) mostly full stacks of evil factions marching through my mostly undefended territory (an Isengard's army passed by Minas Tirith on its merry way heading for the city). Now, I already destroyed an Isengard army, and will be facing the Haradrim crusaders next. Will this keep happening? Army upon army marching from everywhere passing through my territory? How do you handle invasions?

    3 options in my opinion:
    - Reload a previous turn. Invasions have a random chance of taking place each turn, unless 1 is already underway or just passed.
    - Defend
    - Let them walk in and retake it right away.

You can immediately give the settlement to any faction as a gift (which will end the invasion) and take it back right away. If you are playing a good faction that is allied with evil, you can avoid them declaring a war on you during invasion this way. If you give the to-be invaded settlement to another good faction, the evils will declare a war on them. Trolled hard!

Is it simple? It seemed to need more discussion which is why I didn't post it there...I could continue defending, I guess. I'm building barracks in Dol Amroth, and will be done in the coming turns so I could continue supplying Umbar with troops, but will the invasion ever expire? Should I just let them take the city and then reconquer it?

Well, you could just use a diplomat and give the city to one of the evil factions, preferably the faction furthest from your territory. That will end the invasion, and with any luck the city will quickly rebel, it may even do so in your favour.

You can try stationing small forces of say 4 units on blocking points such as the river crossings, usually the enemy will just bypass them, but on occasion they will attack. While you won’t naturally win the battle, you should be able to inflict significant casualties on the odd stack.

One thing I always used to do was to open up the ‘descr_campaign_db’ file and under the crusades section find the ‘movement_points_modifier float’ and change it to ‘1.25’. That way an invading army travels across the map at roughly the same speed as a regular army, but that will only help if you start a new game.

Invasion will end when all crusaring armies are dead. I cant remember time, but after certain number of turns new generals cant join it anymore. You can keep defending city if you want and feel like giving it away to dodge invasion is too dirty trick.

If you want to stop the invasions fast, let the first army take the city. If you choose to keep the city and stay and fight you will encounter 1 to 3 stacks from each faction that joins the invasion and they will be in your lands after the invasion has ended. Only choose this if you think you can deal with them.

Most of the troops in this invasionarmies are Orc Looters. They are quite easy to handle and may rout easy Just make some cavalry run into their backs

Only thing that is annoying is that often they wont seige the invasion target if the garrison army is equal or bigger and wait around ;/

Interesting, I think I'll just get assassins and make sure to pick off the generals from all the armies coming through, that should resolve my problem. After the invasion is done, though, and if I still have some invasion stacks lying around my territory, should I expect them to siege the first settlement that they stumble into? I guess it's too hopeful to expect them to go home empty handed.

Pretty long before they lifted up invasion... like 40 turns or more [not sure]

Invasion make thing a bit more management because you know where its will strike, however that mean you have army ready for this, if so keep defend it, nothing more nothing less.

But if you still weak or you lose too much soldiers or you aren't ready for this, lets them take it.. its waste time. Mostly when they captured the target they will retreat to nearby city.

Its easy to make war with others, its never been easy when we need a peace.

My holy damn simple tactic; Strike First, Strike HARD and SHOW NO MERCY.

Use assasins and kill the all the generals in the invasion. Then their armies will disband.

Get up a full stack, set it up next to the invasion city, give the settlement to an evil faciton and attack the place right away.
You could aslo try and make peace with Dark Lord of Mordor, but I've never been able to do that

wait 10 turns then kill all the armies. after 10 turns no new generals can join an invasion. The easy way is to just gift it to a faction you're already at war with then just take it back next turn. Prevents every evil faction from declaring war on you as well.

    A question, or...two actually.

When they declare a invasion on one of my town, my allied usually never "helps" me, is this normal?

And when they declare a invasion on a another good AI faction, I hardly see any other AI showing up to help, is this normal also?

As far as I've experienced yes, it is normal that the AI do not consider "invasion" as a special event.

With MOS you can have Tol Acharns and counter invasions which have been created for the player to give some relief and defense against AI launched invasion. Althought I read more than one time around the forums that thecnically speaking the AI allied good factions might use counter invasions to help each other, it never happened in my games till now (but I haven't played Gondor/Arnor/Rohan with MOS yet).

Hope it helps, my suggestion is not to rely on allies to face invasions

Well if youre not playing a submod , without the counter-invasion script or the allies-aid script they wont help you.
I believe MOS has those scripts and there is an option to help good factions when invasion are launched on friendly settlement.
Tho i do not know if THEY will help you.
