It helps to while away the time until ROME II is released.
Lets face it most threads are started for something to discuss even if it maybe pointless.

Steam is a pain if you don't have a decent internet connection, but it was still worth it when I had crappy internet. Only in the last year or so (with my awesome new internet) have I been truly experiencing all the awesomeness that steam can provide. Steam Cloud alone saved me a ton of work backing up my files when I had to switch between 3 different hdds in a short period of time.

The most important reason why they will not resign on steam is, they can easily sale DLCs on this platform, getting pile of money on content which, without steam, would be included in a basic version of game. But it's unavoidable now. Except of that, i really appreciate the role of steam platform in multiplayer gaming, it's good that TWs use it imo.

That's a lame theory. You can sell DLC activation codes through websites. You don't need Steam. Steam makes it easier. Steam also has smoother multiplayer and makes sure players get all of the patches when they come out.

Once again, in these threads we always get those that think Steam forces developers to cut content or force them to make DLC.

Exactly. I've played plenty of good games on Steam that didn't have cut content. Digital is a new trend but I'm certain that hard copies won't go anywhere for a while. Mostly due to the fact there are areas with low or no internet connection(s). CA said Rome2 will have a hard copy. Which I'll probably order off Amazon if it's not available locally.

my internet connection get me about 300KB/s download speed over steam
well now you can see that to install a game about 15GB I will need 2 day or more. It isn't fun to download a game that big and stop use any internet program for 2 days

Consider yourself lucky, I was using a dial up until last year because my area didn't have broadband wires.

Maybe mB/s instead. It was years ago before (fairly) highspeed that I'm having now. Installing ETW was quick with the DVD but downloading the patch takes nearly a week. That's why after every patch I backed up my ETW installation just in case something mess up later. It's apractice I'm still doing even now so that if something happened and my game got corrupted I do not have to redownload everything again.

Remeber when Shogun 2 try to redownload everything from the start after some patch last time? What I did was cancel the download, delete Shogun 2 installation and reinstall from my backup which then only continue to download whatever latest patch only.

Doesnt matter to me that much I get a hard copy anyway, but patches and dlc were a bit problematic. Damn living in the New Forest.

No Lesta its 54 Kb a second with the old system if you were lucky.
My powerful Broadband runs at 0.8 Mb. download and 0.1 Mb upload. Some day I may get 21st century supply if I live long enough.

I sure as hell do not want to get landed with big patches.

    There will be patches.

If you want to get Rome II early then I suggest right after installing (from DVD) then activate it as soon as possible and make sure to run Steam offline and also disabling Steam to autostart everytime you start the pc. Do not connect to internet before you want to play the game and make sure to always choose offline everytime there's a choice.

Or, wait to buy the game in 2015/2016 when the game goes Gold with all the patches/DLC included from the DVD.

    Or get a faster broadband.

I hate steam, i want to feel my game in my hands, both via keyboard and disc. But i can live with steam, as long as they give option to buy EVERYTHING as non-steam version
Apologies for anyone who's message i may miss or not be able to answer

Buy retail. That's what I do. Steam is just activation and DRM platform. You do not have to buy uit from there.

You buy retail and have to activate it using third party, steam in this case. That is stil steam version.

Of course but I was replying to the earlier poster who wants to feel the disk in their hand. With Steam you can actually hold the disk while playing, unlike unSteam version.

Even though you and I usually disagree on some things, I have to say that this made me laugh, and I agree with you on this last one.

Honestly i prefer a steam version, patching is so much better and everything (expansions and dlc D is so much fast, i loved the option to take pictures without a separate program.
