Regarding internet speed, finally got a 5 Mb download speed after a lot of hassle with provider,s.
Not the fastest in the world but a lot better than the 0.8 Mb they had me stuck with for the past 18 months.
    regards.
5MB is like mine. Shogun 2 took the whole night to download. In any case patches up to 5GB shouldn't take long. The good thing is now you can still playing other games on Steam while other is downloading unlike previously where the downloads will be paused while you're playing other games.

I don't care really, but it is nice you woulden't have to go onto some wbesite to update you game constantly and dlc/expansions can just come on steam instead of you have to find them in a shop + alot of other games use it, so you will alredy have alot of games on steam

I love steam, but I'd like to see a non-steam version availible. My dad hates videogames and a disc version without steam is easier to hide from him.

It took me 3 Days non-stop to Download Assassin's creed revelations on steam, which is 10 Gigabytes, although that's more so my ****** Internet's fault.

I'd like to see both offered, a steam version and a non-steam version.

Steam because well it is 2013....DVD discs are sooooo......ancient, however I still like to have a physical copy to display

So Steam it is, get over it

    I think...

I think that to be able to choose by the player who buys the game:

    - Steam version - the ability to update the game to date. In addition, automatic updates.
    - Without Steam version to run. Patches via Steam can update manually. There is no obligation.

So the options here are what?
A service that lets me buy games instantly, constantly keeps those games updated, provides easy access to DLC content in a user-friendly store which i can buy for my favourite games, provides relatively cheap games, has great sales and has access to great services like steam workshop.
Or the standard experience of buying a disc, and installing it, simply to preserve some illusion of ownership?

    yeah...i'll stick with steam.

Will it be possible to play Rome 2 without internet?
If not, why not? That's just dumb.

A boxed version for me. Living in a rural area = very poor internet. It'd take me weeks to download a game like Rome II from the Steam servers. It certainly took ages when Steam screwed up with a Shogun 2 patch and forced me to download the entire game (plus DLC) all over again.

As with past TW games on Steam, yes it's possible. Only installation and actication + running the game the first time needed internet connection. After that it's no longer needed.

IF you're asking to be able to play Rome II since day 1 without internet connection at all then no. The gaming world has moved to to the digital age.

Does he need to repeat this process when he changes his HDD, or crashes his Windows due to reinstallation or something similar?

And, his activation code is tied up with his steam account... if something happens to that account, and steam support doesn`t do what is supposed to ( provide support) what happens to his Rome 2 activation code, will it stil work if he makes another steam account?
American, French, Israeli and British government's ILLEGAL aggression against the Syrian people, without any proof for chemical attacks in Douma, and without waiting for OPCW to conduct their investigation..
Sons of *******, leave that poor, war torn country in peace.
If you are a citizen of one of these countries, then DO NOT ask any help from me on these forums, since, in protest against this aggression by your governments, I do not provide assistance/help anymore.
Let Syria be finally in peace.

Me and my brothers use one account between 4 computers and we have never had a problem. There was a problem when I could only play offline and I contacted the support and they quickly pointed out I had my firewall settings wrong.

I think some people, including me, are worried that Steam would behave like the EA DRM abomination that is Sim City.
I have steam and sometimes I lose connection because I have a crappy Internet but as long as Steam doesn't kick me out or require a internet connection to play the game then I would not worry.
in the rare cases that my Internet is down completely it would be nice to be able to use steam offline mode to play the games.

if both of these conditions are met then there is really no reason to hate on steam just be thankful CA is not owned by EA...

I personally enjoy Steam alot more now than I used to. With the advent of Big Picture I actually play alot of the games I buy for dirt cheap on there.

Well its nice to have a disk version and if you buy it when ROME II is just released it should save a heap of time installing the game.?
As far as I can tell if you are late to the party with buying a disk set and there have been lots of patches? Then your disk set be be useless for a quick install?

If you want to buy disk then buy early and not a year after release or wait until CA/SEGA release a Gold/Platinum Editon whatsoever.

The initial installation with DVD will probably around 12-15GB and within 6 months the game could be up to 20GB in total with patches.
