Default Medieval 2 kingdoms disc not installing

I bought a copy of Medieval 2 Total War gold edition, and when I insert disc 2 to install Kingdoms the only thing that happens is a black box appears and then disappears after around 1/2 a second. I had previously had problems installing Kingdoms with an amazon download, and I think my computer thinks that Kingdoms is already installed, because when I checked the launcher it gave me the option to play the Kingdoms games even thought they aren't installed. I have disabled UAC, deleted all SEGA files, and used a registry cleaner and none of that helped. Does anyone know what to do now?

I tried manually uninstalling earlier, and none of the Medieval 2 files were there. I actually had Kingdoms installed a month ago, but I tried using a patch and it failed. Then I tried it uninstall Kingdoms and it got around 3/4 of the way there then an error came up, and the only thing it said is "Error: 1" I'm really not sure why my computer still things Kingdoms is still downloaded, i've pretty much removed all files related to Medieval 2 Kingdoms.

Then, you will need to learn to use regedit.
    What Windows version?

Search for the words official and unofficial.

When I searched for official I got 4 readme's, one was for Rome: Total War, two were for some other games I installed, and one was in French. Nothing came up when I searched for unofficial.

French is the odd one out. This was a search in RegEdit - correct? Or were your searching the web?

Where did you buy the game from and where do you live (loosely speaking - I only want country of origin). Good luck!

Oops, I was searching in the programs and files bar. I searched official and unofficial in RegEdit, and for official I found a SEGA file containing a file folder for Medieval 2, and for each of the Kingdoms games. Inside each of the Kingdoms files there is another file named 1.03.000. There was also four files inside the official file named 0000Americas, 0001Britannia, 0002Crusades, and 0003Teutonic. Nothing came up for unofficial. Can I delete all of these files to make the game install correctly again?

Delete them all. That's what's making the game think it's still installed. Search for all of them.

I deleted all of the files I found when searching official, and then I found some more SEGA files when I searched SEGA. I tried installing again, and Medieval 2 Downloaded fine. When I put in disc 2 to download Kingdoms an error came up saying "String ID_MISSING_LANGUAGE was not found in string table". When I clicked OK another message came up that just said ""ID_MISSING_LANGUAGE". The installation got cancelled, so I put the disc back in to try again and all that happened is the black box just appeared and then dissapeared again.

Is this the Gold version of the game or did you buy the discs separately? What region do you live in - Europe, N. America etc. What language are you trying to install in?

I got the Gold edition from amazon, so I got the discs together. I'm in the U.S., and i'm trying to install the game in English.

What other programs do you have on your computer including ISOs, emulators, disc imaging, audio imaging, video imaging, games, utilities, game cracks, torrents, warez?

Some other games I have are Need for Speed: Undercover, Need for Speed: Shift (installed incorrectly), Need for Speed Pro-Street (won't install), the 1st and 3rd Harry Potter games from a long time ago, and Minecraft. Could any of those affect Kingdoms?

They will, Need For Speed Shift will. It uses Securom, too.
www.securom.com, run their idiot test, and give it to them with a request for a new .exe for both.

It should work after removing all traces. It could also be why the other two did not install correctly after the first one was installed.

I deleted all of the Need for Speed files and then used CCleaner, the uninstaller didn't seem to work. I still get the black box when I put in the Kingdoms disc.

Did you uninstall the Need For Speed in Add/Remove programs before deleting their folders?
There could still be entries in the Uninstallshield folder that will have to be manually removed.

May as well plan on a clean install of Medieval2, too, since it got a scent of Need For Speed.
