Thread: Stopping reinforcements

    Default Stopping reinforcements

As the title would suggest I am looking for a way to stop reinforcements. Not the enemies, I don't want to make the game easier. There are times though when I don't want my own armies coming in to help. At the moment for example there is a small contingent of cannon with a very small escort looking likely to join up with a larger enemy force before besieging my city. I would like to attack said small force with a few cavalry units and keep my main army out of it. Since they are within reinforcing range of both armies everyone gets called in to fight. The plan would be to strike quickly with the cav and then quit the field giving me a technical defeat but accomplishing my strategic aims, as they main army garrison is on the field as well though this forces them to retreat from the city leaving it undefended, hardly ideal. So is there any way I can order my own main army just to stay put and not help out? I am sure they mean well but it is limiting my options in the war.

I hope you can help, this kind of thing wasn't such a problem in Med2 and Rome because armies had to be much closer to reinforce, on empire they seem to be able to do so from much further away.

I don't think there is a way to stop them. However I can suggest you just leave them near the edge of the battlefield, or order them to retreat as soon as they enter battle.

it depends on how many movement points reinforcement army had when turn ended.. if they didnt moved at all, they have full movement available, so they can reinforce from far greater distance..

But then they retreat right out of the city despite not having seen any action, which is the problem. Thanks for the responses guys, shame I can't just order my own army to stay tucked up behind city walls though.

The way the game is set up really limits any real strategy the player can use. I am another player who wishes Total control of their own forces. Kind of makes me wonder why I payed for a game that the developers play instead of me.
