    Preview: Dominion of the Sword
Dominion of the Sword: Dar al-Islam, revealing the Islamic world - Part 4

The Dominion of the Sword team have now released the fourth and final preview in their "Revealing the Islamic World" thread and this time the focus is on the area located around Syria. The preview provides several new images of what will be one of the most hotly contested areas of the map - with Muslim factions fighting each other for control and the looming prospect of a Christian crusade this area will probably be the main focus for several factions during the course of the campaign. The pattern set by the previous previews is also continued here with a very detailed overview of the geography, economy, demography and politics of the region at the time being provided and an explanation of how they influenced the map design. If you want to read a bit more about the area or just want to go and admire the work you just need to visit the post here!

    Release: Fantasy War
    Fantasy War Materials Released

The Fantasy War mod team have in recent weeks decided to release all the work that they have completed for their mod due to constraints which haven't allowed them to complete their mod. The release contains a map, a few buildings, events and also a few very nice looking units, which the team have very kindly decided to allow the community to use in their own projects, as long as you include them in the credits if you release anything. If you want to have a look at the release yourself there are several images of the materials included in the download thread here, as well as a link to a German site containing more information on the project.

    Release: Elvasat's Shield Textures Pack
    Elvasat's Shield Textures Pack

The second resource that is brought to you in this issue is Elvasat's Shield Textures pack. The pack contains 93 new shield textures and 40 different bosses, which look to be of a very high quality if the image contained in the download post is any indication. Elvasat has allowed everybody in the community to use this resource without permission, but as always you must make certain that you credit the work to him if you do decide to include any of his work in your own release. The download for this resource can be found here!

    Release: AOR v2.3
    AOR v2.3

Hold your leggings and find your throne! Third Age just got another level of epic in AOR v2.3! So what is all the fuss about? Well not only is it a massive submod, it is a massive overhaul of an already massive mod! You will be able to get your Third Age on with these new features...Again maybe you should sit down with an ale and bust out the pipe weed whilst you have a glimpse of what will be if so choose! You will find first a completely reworked AOR system. Now you will need to build up your culture in order to recruit foreign units. The recruitment of foreign units will be much slower than the home faction to which they belong. Streamlined recruitment, NEW UNITS, add on of Heirs of Isilidor mod, balancing acts, maybe a fire eater, and a turkey on a spit...You get the idea.

Also, here is a break down for you so you know a little of what AOR has that vanilla 3.2 doesn't:
    - a new Area of Recruitment system has been added
    - 4 new factions (Dunland, Lorien, Ered Luin, Anduin vale)
    - a massive number of new units, many of them AOR units
    - new regions
    - complete rebalancing of all units in the game, see this thread for a general idea how they are balanced
And even more! Believe it or...not!

    Release: Santa Invasion
    Santa Invasion

Csatádi's Santa Invasion is a fully playable 'joke' mode replacing the Portugal with Santa Claus faction. The mod is based around the idea having Santa Claus gone crazy and he's off to dominate the world. Santa starts from southern Finland with one province only, this offers many choices and possibilities when and how to lay waste into Europe with your armies. There is many units to choose from such as stag riding Santa's, snowball throwing women and snowmen. The mod contains the same author's Magyar Mod 1.21, which aims to present the Hungary and it's neighboring countries as authentic as possible as well as repairing the main problems with the original game.

    Preview: Tormented Realms
    Tormented Realms

Danny X, one of TWC's most talented mappers, brings us another extraordinary map. In this preview we'll take a look at the preview of the map of his own Tormented Realms mod. Set in a fantasy world you can find islands shaped like fangs or a skull and even a river in the shape of a dragon. Due to the map's large amount of navigatable rivers and seas naval warfare will become a big part in this mod. If you're afraid of putting your troops on those wooden vessels of dubious quality, or if you just don't like the smell of rotten fish, than you can take the land route, you don't need to build a single ship to conquer all regions but one. This mod will be released both as a submod for TATW, the map will be included in The Holy Pilgrim's COW vs. TATW mod, as well as a fully modfoldered version of the mod. Unfortunately for all of us nothing has not been released yet so all we can do now is look at those nice preview pictures over and over again.
    Spoiler for map pics

One of the map's many peninsula.

The start of the fearsome Dragon River.

    Preview: Tsardoms: Total War
    Principality of Moldova Faction Preview

The Tsardoms: Total War modification team recently unveiled their Principality of Moldova faction preview, full of rich historical background information and incredibly detailed new units. The Principality of Moldova was a small vassal state under the dominion of the Kingdom of Hungary that existed on the Eastern slopes of the Carpathian Mountains. The Principality fielded mobile armies based on archery and cavalry that relied on harassment and hit and run tactics. Take control as Voivode of the Principality of Moldova and assert your faction’s independence from the Kingdom of Hungary. Be sure to look for allies in the Principality of Wallachia and the Orthodox powers of Bulgaria and the Roman Empire. Take advantage of the fragmented Kingdom of Galicia-Volhynia, and drive back the retreating Tartar invaders! Expand the Principality’s influence, and lead the people of Moldova to glory in Tsardoms: Total War!

But, of course, there’s more! The Tsardoms: Total War modification team was sure to include some sharp looking units, coupled with detailed descriptions, in the faction preview. Of note are the Moldovian Macemen, fearsome peasants armed with two-handed maces that serve as shock troops. A hit of the mace can crush shields and armor alike. You won't have to worry about the Principality's lack of heavy infantry when you have these guys on your line!
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Be sure to watch out for the Calarasi Horsearchers as well, who learned the art of archery from the migratory invaders that passed through their land. The Calarasi are part of the standing army and are ideal for harassing enemy lines. But keep them away from hand to hand combat, they much rather use their bows and arrows!
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

This jam-packed faction preview includes many, many more beautiful units and information that can be found here. Go check it out!
