1.5 Patch problems
I have been reading numerous posts about how people all over are having problems applying the 1.5 patch. I have spent the past 2 days working on trying to patch virtually every copy of M2TW I can find (Amazon,Gamefly,Steam) and none of them will take the patch. I run windows 7 and have tried basically everything I can find to try online for windows 7 and have installed/uninstalled over 30 times now trying new things, nothing works. Sometimes the patch will take but then the game won't run and act like the digital copy needs a cd for some unknown reason (it gives a link to the securom page to fix it but that doesn't work either). At this point I am at my end with Amazon,Gamefly,Steam,CA,Sega and basically anyone who has anything to do with this game (my favorite of all time), knowing that this is a problem yet there is no fix, Why they don't just sell the game patched to 1.5 to eliminate this is beyond me and makes me think they lack the brain power to recognize the problem. Another problem I have is the customer support is mediocre at best with these companies, Amazon and Gamefly have links to patches for the game that supposedly work but the links are either broken or the files don't work. Gamefly came the closest to fixing it, with a patch for the Direct 2 Drive version of them game (that's how I originally bought it from Gamefly) but when I try to install that patch to the gamefly version it can't find kingdoms (with UAC disabled). If they offered the same exact link to download the direct2drive copy of the game I know that would work because that is how I patched to 1.5 in the past but they don't. Now in my last attempt I have ordered a physical copy of both games (which I already have but can't find). In the end I own 5-6 copies of this game and Kingdoms and only 1 (if I am lucky) will accept the 1.5 patch.

Re: 1.5 Patch problems
If you bought it from Steam it's already patched.
If you downloaded it from Gamefly or Amazon, contact Sega support with all pertinent info and request an activation code for the Steam version.
Oh, and install the game with UAC disabled preferably anyplace but Program Files (x86).

Re: 1.5 Patch problems
Check this thread for a patch that might work, btw the steam version apparently comes already updated

Re: 1.5 Patch problems
Yeah, just use the steam version (or get an activation code for steam) and not worry about having to patch.

Re: 1.5 Patch problems
I have been installing it on many different drives to try to fix it, doesn't change anything that I can tell. The problem with the steam version is that I can't get any mods to work with it. Apparently that is because steam forces me to install the game to the steam folder.

Re: 1.5 Patch problems
I guess the best option until I receive the physical copies is to try to get a mod to work on the steam version, the chances of which are dubious at best.

Mods work on Steam. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=353922
Stainless Steel and Third Age installers are Steam compatible for two.

Re: 1.5 Patch problems
Thank Irishron, Retrofit Mod is what I am really after, sorry should have been more specific. The modding is really my secondary problem though, If I could just get any copy of the game other than the Steam version patched to 1.05 then I would assume that the modding won't be an issue. Am I correct to assume that the mods will work on a physical copy of the game? Or will I have problems patching that to 1.05 as well? or will it patch to 1.05 and then the mods still not work/run? I have even heard of people with physical copies of the game that run into the cd problem with the disc in the tray. I have run into a lot of different error messeges in the many different attempts and I refuse to wait a week for a response from Sega who doesn't even have phone/chat support. Instead of talking to them you spend a week sending e-mails back and forth when the issue could be resolved with a 5 minute phone call or chat. I think I would be better off spending my time discussing it with you guys who sound more knowledgeable than most phone/tech support people anyway. The one thing they may have that people on here don't is a special patch, but those seem to be long gone.

Re: 1.5 Patch problems
If you want to put up SecuROM's anality that comes with the physical copy. It will flag anything it deems illegal even if it legit and will not give you a clue.
The ones I know for sure are torrents, cracks, emulation software like Daemon tools, some other games like Sim2/3, Battlefield2, the likes of old Napster, Limewire, ISOs, and I am sure there are a few more I don't remember.
If you don't have any of these, physical copy is a breeze with the UAC disabled and installed in C:\Games assuming Vista/Win 7/8.
Otherwise, figure out Steam.
One thing you won't be aware of as old as the mod is, Retrofit overwrites vanilla files and makes the install for anything else including playing vanilla or other mods. It's that old and has never been updated.
