Hello,
I really enjoy this mod and one of the best features is how well crafted some of the custom settlements are. That said, a few of the custom settlements appear to be nearly non-functional, either because they're too small or simply don't let you use enough of the fortifications.
Osgiliath is fairly well done, I like the look and layout of the city. However there are two bridges, one is broken while the other appears to be completely intact, bridging the Anduin. The intact bridge is not usable, however, forcing you to cross the shallow waters between the two halves of the city. It would be more interesting if you could use the undamaged bridge to cross as well, or even position archers up on the broken bridge to try and shoot down at enemies crossing the river, relatively safe from all but return missile fire.
Another example is in Dol Guldur the outer wall works fine, though towers that (apparently) don't fire projectiles merely get in the way of your soldiers, and since the wall is so curved the amount of archers you can bring to face an enemy in any single direction is very sparse. The upper part of the fort is good, but the effectiveness is limited because you can't put any soldiers ontop of the upper walls. Cair Andros has this same issue, but since the 'upper' part of the fortress is much roomier, it's not as big a deal.
There's also Minas Morgul, which looks amazing. However, the interior of the fortress is so cramped that it's difficult to deploy even a handful of units for its defense, let alone an entire army. Part of this is because you apparently can't station soldiers on any of the walls.
Compared Dol Guldur (functional but somewhat impractical) and Minas Morgul (unfunctional, completely impractical) to masterpieces such as Minas Tirith and Helms Deep, and you can see why the forces of Sauron were historically on the offense!
So I was wondering if there were any plans to improve the existing custom settlements in terms of layout and functionality - in particular allowing greater use of walls? Or is it just that in using mods such as MoS the custom settlements got screwed up a little?
