MTW2 & Windows 8

I get a constant CTD whenver I go to a battle from the campaign map on vanilla, kingdoms, and Third Age MOS (in short nothing works). I was curious if anyone else has experienced the same issues and is using windows 8 and if they have found a working solution.

I have tried compatibility mode for win XP service pack 3 and win 7. There was never a log file after any of the CTDs and when running Third age I would get a VBScript runtime error.

I have since uninstalled the game but wanted to know if anyone else is in the same boat and knows a fix.

EDIT If anyone comes here to find an answer the solution is to go to folder options view hidden folders, then go to C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Sega\Medieval2 Total War and delete any Third Age files you find there, Stealthfox also handily pointed out that you should backup any save data you wish to keep.

Activate your copy of Win 8 and run Windows Update manually installing all software options?

Well windwos 8 was the default installation, my old PC broke down over Christmas and I had to get a new one, this copy of windows 8 is up to date

Uh, have you personally checked to be sure? I have yet to get a prebuild already up to date.
Updated your graphics drivers yourself?

Try it with the UAC disable and in C:\Games as well.

Okay, after uninstalling and re-installing everything I have got vanilla kingdoms working. A new problem is that the BAT file for third age cannot locate the kingdoms exe but I'll just ask over on their forums. So it would seem there was an error in installation.

Have you disabled the UAC and left it disabled?
Do you have it set "Run as Administrator" and "XP Compatible"?

The bat file runs off the exe AFAIK. The bat file itself isn't locating the exe I don't think its a compatibility issue. I've got full administrator priveleges in fact running as an admin was the only reason I found out the exe locating was the problem. UAC is deactivated and always has been. I tried a fresh install and it wasn't the filepath either. Perplexing

Out of curiosity - what is the filepath you're installing to? This old game doesn't like to be installed to the [Program Files (x86)] folder. If that's your destination folder for your installer then uninstall and reinstall to either [Program Files] or [C:\Games]. That may be your problem. Let us know how it goes. Good luck!

Did you install the game and the mod with the UAC disabled? If so, it should find it. It does on my Win 7.
I still have all the icons including TATW's set to "Run as Administrator". I hate taking a chance with this anal operating system.

Yep, I literally can't think of a reason why it isn't working and double checked that I did install the US patch 1.5. The game was loading earlier today only it would CTD every time I entered a battle and so I had to re install to try and fix it, now it just closes the application at startup

Check your antivirus/firewall/security suite settings.
Some have been known to throw false positives at this game.

Okay I added the whole SEGA folder as an exception as well as the Med 2 exe, the kingdoms exe. and the launcher exe jsut for good measure. I'm still having this problem but haven't reinstalled it, if this requires a re installation I have to keep trying tomorrow since it's ~1:00 AM here now.

^True story it just sorta happened ref post #7 but ishion continued to be gracious enough to help me so I continued to try and solve it hahahaha
