White tourists safe from Greek police

As it emerged today, if you are a tourist in Greece, and white, you have nothing to fear from the Greek police. However, if you belong to a slightly different colour palette, it is suggested that you hold your passport between your teeth at all times, although that may not prove sufficient: detailed Instructions here.

I have to concede that probably it is a new initiative aimed at promoting Adventure Holidays, and come to think of it, what better way to experience the Greek Marvel then waking up in a hospital after having your ass kicked by Athens's finest?

In our defense we did beat only three (apparently) of them pests, a Black (father of three-US citizen it turns out) a Yellow (of the wrong Korea) and a Brown (of one of them countries-unfortunately a University Professor), so it might be what we call a statistical aberration.

I expect white tourism will pick up this year, definitely.

The thing is BBC has repeatedly lost face by trying too hard to point out racism while ignoring the real problem.

(a month ago they made a whole report on how GD member said something and even had the audio file on their website as proof. Thing is they are too dumb in their crusade to make up what it really meant to say zzzz)

Yeah that's unfortunate. Still, with virtually all illegal immigrants and foreign troublemakers in Greece being non-white, it's hardly surprising they go for darker fellows. It's just in this case that they didn't exhibit proper judgement. Nothing wrong in principle though.

I'm glad you realise it now. While Greek Police is a subset of Greek People it is not exactly the same demographic. For example 6.92% of Greek People support a neo-Nazi party, while the number rises to more than 50% among Greek Police.

The OP was about Police treatment of tourists (and the consequences of it) of a specific racial profile (non-white) accidental or not, that remains to be seen. You threw in a number (60K) from the article, which refers to a different demographic (illegal immigrants-and some visitors, as the article puts it) and you want to draw comparisons. It's your prerogative, but that does not make it exactly relevant.

Jesus Christ! Is that percentage for real? Not a huge surprise, I suppose, considering the tendency for cops to be totalitarian dicks the world over. But that's still rather alarming considering what neo-Nazis stand for. Is the wider Greek public aware that a majority of their own police support said party?

On a side note, I'd still love to vacation in Greece. Someone's got to eat all that moussaka, might as well be me.

I think I have the moral obligation to oppose the people who reduced my country to rubble and a great many of them are my compatriots. I guess these are the same people who reduced the Greek Police to (or part of it) to thugs. I am not blind to the fact that policemen in Greece are essentially a proletariat (even if they do not know the term): uneducated, underpaid, untrained, uninsured; victims as well as criminals.
