    Default HELP with upgradable board.

I bought an upgradable board a while ago, this one:
    http://www.netdeals4u.com/Asrock_K8_...p/04-01282.htm
(This has a future slot for a skt939 upgrade)

I am thinking of upgrading the CPU soon, I was going to upgrade to 939skt, until I saw this:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813998603

Is this AM2 upgrade board compatable with the board I have, if so I'm really chuffed.

It does say this at the bottom, it this meaning I can upgrade directly from my 754skt board? The thing that through me was it said it was for the 939upgrade board at the top.
The AM2CPU Board is a CPU upgrade module for ASRock K8/939 series motherboard with Future CPU Port. The AM2CPU Board contains AM2 940-pin socket, Dual Channel DDRII DIMMs and independent power input, which provides a quick upgrade capability from socket 754/939 to socket 940(AM2)CPU.

Not seen one like that before. best go check out manufacuters site. At first look it looks compatable - however do you have a AM2 (socket940 CPU) and DDR2 RAM?

Also it appears to upgrade by adding another bit of mobo into your PCI sockets. Therfore you may not get the perfomance you would with a 'normal' mobo.

No, the board I have is a skt754 and it has a proper expansion socket, not pci, for a new cpu, namely a 939skt. I.e., you put the expansion card in and "walla", you can now put a skt939 proccessor into the system. Iwas wondering whether this AM2 upgrade card worked on my 754skt board, as it meantions on the box only 939skt upgrades, but when I bought it AM2 wasn't available, so they might have integrated it since, thats what I wanted to know.

OK so the mobo and expansion card are meant for one another. You'll have to tell us how it goes. Your squestion is will my socket 754 be compatable as the mobob only mentions k8/939 upgrade?

So you think it would be compatable with mine then.
P.S how do you see the bios version in windows?

** The AM2CPU Board with the yellow-colored indication label is designed for the K8/939Upgrade Series motherboard with the yellow-colored Future CPU Port.
I noticed this on your link, mine is yellow, so I guess it thumbs up!

It's got your mobo listed as supported

    Support ASRock Motherboard** K8Upgrade-1689, K8Upgrade-VM800, K8Upgrade-NF3, 939Dual-SATA2, K8SLI-eSATA2, 939SLI-eSATA2, 939SLI32-eSATA2
    Yours is the k8upgrade-VM800 right?

You got a yellow coloured future CPU port? - you got there bofore me

But as I say m8 you may not get the full performance out of an upgrade module. That's not talking from any experience at all nor having seen any benchmarks. I;d dig out performance data or look for assurance that it goes the same as a normal AM2 of you are going to shell out $$$ on CPU RAM etc.

Maybe someone else on the forum can advise who has experience on this type fo kit. I'm only shooting in the dark here and reading the links you've provided.

Yes, thanks a lot BTW, please see my post above as i have edited it...

BTW, you meantioned upgrading memory, surely I don't have to buy ddr2 to get it to work, my current ram, (1gb ddr400) should work should it not?

The AM2 socket including the expansion board you're thinking about buying takes DDR2 only. So your current RAM wont work in the new socket.
I've no idea if you can use your original mobo for RAM and your expansion socket for the CPU without the DDR2.
