i have RTR 6.3 i play as "Roman Republic" i use the mod which trains units for 0turns and builds buildings for 1 turn but still

1.gauls attack from the north
2.carthage from sicily
3.greece from south and east
4.illyria
5.my only ally is macedon and they are almost defeated

1.against the gauls i can win their barbarian warriors are damn weak - (but i have sent my armies elsewhere)
2.i captured Syracuse and Messana
3.Pyrus and his elephants are killing me only 7 elephants left (i think) and i send 500 (almost 500) soldiers but the result "CLEAR DEFEAT"
4.illyrians keep my ports blocked damn STRONG barbarian ships
5.macedon has only 1 city left i cant count on them anymore

any advices pls all i want with gauls,carthage and illyria is so i can concentrate on the greeks my income is high 10000 per turn but hte expenses are to high

I'm not sure about phyrrus in RTR, having only fought his army in XGM, but I assume it's mostly phalanx based? You should try to beat him in two battles - the first by avoiding battle with his phalanxes and wiping out his elephants, cavalry and skirmishers. Set your hastati/principes to fire at will, especially when approached by elephants. Their pili will take care of many of them. His cavalry shoudl be looking for a fight, so just attack them with your infantry and surround with light cavalry.

Make sure you destroy as many of Phyruss' auxiliaries as you can, then withdraw, regroup, and take on his remaining phalanx.

Keep one legion in the north of Italy and fight completely defensively against the Gauls. As for Carthage, build up a decent navy in the north and send it south to take on Carthage ship stacks. I'm not sure about naval power balance in RTR but it works in XGM. If you can keep the navy at bay, send stacks to sicily to deal with remaining carthginian troops.

A) I don't cheat... I don't want to cheat... I'd rahter lose then cheating...
B) here's your stepplan to get back in action partner! =>
1) Retreat your units from Sicily fully, destroy ALL buildings so that Carthage must rebuild it all... (and you get some denarii from those cities)
2) Try to take Crotona and Tarentum (so you have the southern side of Italy...)
3) You should try to defeat any army south of Rome first (Phyrrus)
How? If he has 1000 units, you throw 1500 units against him! You try to defeat his main-elephant force first (let every unit fire-at-will) then you use your cavalry and flank his Phalanxes (all cavalry to one side preferably...) while the Legionairs are holding the phalangites in place! You strike with all your cavalry on 1 side, and they should start routing in a jiffy!
4) suppose you now control entire south Italy uptill Rome and 1 city above Rome... Put all units ready to defend Rome!
If Rome is under attack, change of Capital, and try to pull in a good force to defend Rome!
IF you wanna defend Rome, first make units as fast as possible (make a full stack in Rome and let them stay there... IF the Barbarians invade, you place them in defending places on your Forum... (or however it's called, the middle point of the city with that flag)
You try to cover every street and defend it... And you should be winning... (It's hard to explain how really... lol :/)
5) you move all your availlable units in 2 good armies (if needed always play with them together, 1 softening up army and 1 killing army) and attack Gaul first !
6) if you can destroy the Gauls in 3 battles (= 3 stacks gone) it should work to take their 2 nothern cities (north Italy, forgot their names) so that threat is a goner aswell...

You have made Carthage have Sicily (keep 1 stack in defence for that southern citie which gives acces to Italy! Very important!!)
You have destroyed Phyrrus and took entire South Italy (be carefull for encounterments, but I don't think they'll ship an army over Sea... So they'll attack from the north)
You defended Rome, and counterattacked the Gauls and took their nothern cities (they're expeld from Italy forgood lol...)
Now what is left... Macedon will be destroyed by now... So send in a diplomat to Carthage and try getting a ceasefire / alliance OR trade rights (always handy, don't aim tooo high or they'll attack :/) and there's still Greece and Illyria to take down...
Well in my RTR campaign I was playing as Carthaginian and I destroyed following faction:
(SPQR), Numidia, Greece, Rome and I was buzy with those Egyptians aswell... Later on my plan was to take down Iberia (was almost there) and Gaul (was beginning... :]) and destroy Egyptians...
I never actually fought a lot against the Greecs, so I can't really help you with that... Try to fight a Custom battle against them on Hard, and look what they are tend to do... Same for the Illyrians... (Never fought against them)

O yeah, if you can... Muster some Elephants, they are very good units :wink:

2.thats my main problem man i got RTR for 2 days i still havent learned unit types and other things......if onlythere where the OLD RTW units the gauls,greeks,carthaginians,illyrians.....would have thinked TWICE before attacking me....

well pyrus got a high kick....carthage and gaul dont attack anymore just BLOCK my ports..i have all of ITALY but

Ok... Well, try ... Euhm... Lol!
Hows the situation with Greece?
Bcz, I'm happy to see Gaul, Pyrrus 'n Gaul not attacking you nomore!
- Did you demolish entire Messina before you left that city?
- Do you use high tax-rates?
- Did you exterminate the population of those cities you took?
Ok, next steps then...
Get your armies together:
You're gonna recapture Sicily!
First go in a pitched battle against Carthage, then pick 2 armies and attack Messina and Syracusae...
Try to get them as soon as possible, exterminate their population (you should get 20K from everycity if they weren't exterminated in a while...) and advance to Lilybaeum (orsumthing... The eastern city on Sicily)
In the meanwhile do 2 other things:
Disband unused military (keep town guards in your towns though, if you're being invaded by the AI you must be able to defend!) But disband units you don't use OR that are expensive (Elephants e.g.!)
And create 1 stack with atleast 7 ships... And charge at seperate Carthaginian ships that blockade your ports... (Remember, you must have a LOT of ships... Best waith untill you have an entire stack... Or 7 ships orsumthing! And if you fight well, he'll become a Navigator!)
I hope this helps a bit... Bcz being in red $$ isn't good at all...
Try to find a trade right with Greece orsumthing...

My advice for your new game!
Difficult m/m (not h/m that's tooo difficult lol!)
Again, remove theeself from Messina (destroy ALL buildings first), defend yourself from Pyrrus and take the southern cities so you have entire southern Italy!
Repell attacks from the Gauls and take entire Italy...
In the meanwhile, Build 1 GOOD fleet which controls the sea!
Also, let atleast 1 stack over in southern Italy to defend from possible Carthaginian / Greek enemies...
Give note how you done it all and I hope these tips help!
(I never played on Medium, always Easy and thatswhy I'm going to start a new campaign vh/vh)
