What tables does your .pack file contain? You will need PFM to open it: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=494248
Also, does the game crash when you try your mods? Do you put them into the Shogun 2/data folder?

Well all the tables that are mentioned in the video that you need to edit to make the unit, nothing else. The game doesn't crash when I type mod "mod name.pack"; in the user script but the mod is nowhere to be found in the game. And yes, I put the pack file in the Shogun 2/data. Also I thought BOB is the pack file manager or is the PFM something else I need?

PFM is Pack file manager which you can use to open .pack files. It was the modding tool before assembly kit. Anyway, what about the user script? I dont think you need to do that, I certainly don't. Just edit, pack with bob and move to the data folder. Also, look if your mod name has any spaces, if it has then that might be the issue.

I already tried it with a name without spaces as well as not changing the name at all and it still doesn't work. Could it be where I have the tools installed, they are in C:\Shogun2_Modding and is the game_path in binaries suppose to be C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\total war shogun 2?

Move them to c:\mod_tools or something; the directory path must be short and not contain any blanks.

Just verify your game file integrity in Steam, it should redownload it.

IIRC, it's "mod name.pack;" (with a semicolon after it). You also very probably haven't saved it as Unicode; you can set Notepad to do so in the Save As dialog.

    That looks fine.

I tried to update the Assembly kit raw files so that it uses the latest files post Otomo patch using PFM but failed. Can someone do it and upload it or if it's not allowed can anyone tell me step by step how to do it ?

I'm not sure if CA is ever going to update it and I wont bother them for that though.

Well, I have come here for two reasons:

1 - to +rep you Ygge for this great tutorial, I could write a book on why I love you and your tutorial, and I would marry you and have your babies if were a woman. However this is not the case, so I thank you instead and to not waste more of our time with non-essential text.

2 - Is there a way to clean the 'useless files'(those piles of tables and stuff that you did not edit but ended up in the mod regardless) the mod.pack after you create it with BoB? I am sure I saw something somewhere a week ago, but I can't find it, so I am sticking to PFM and deleting what is useless.
I believe this cleaning is very important for compatibility, whereas you can create new units and use it together with total overhauls such as darthmod. If you create a unit and leave that default stats for all units, it might overwrite what other mods have done. I found this cleansing quite useful with ACC uniforms, I tried to mod the colour of the date and shimazu in my new units mod and it was overwriting all ACCs colours, I tried to modify the load order but it did not work, so cleaning the mod helped.
Back on topic, is there a tool or a special course of action to take on BoB so that the junk files don't flood your mod - other than Pack File Manager?

    Thanks again!

Apparently I cannot edit my post nor +rep you for now (must have to do with the antispammer configs) so I ask for your forgiveness for not doing so right now, but in due time, when I am able to, I shall do so. Worry not, you will not be forgotten.

And, of course, sorry for the double-posting. Should you (mod/admin/op) believe this post is inappropriate to the forum's rules, feel absolutely free to delete this.

I need a little bit of help too, sorry if someone asked and i didnt notice, But I created my unit and added it to the game, I was wondering how I would make it Faction specific like only the Date Clan could use it, and also the name for the unit wont pop up no matter what I do. Other then that great Tutorial xD I learned alot.

You need to change cdir_unit_qualities to Date and same with units_to_exclusive_factions_permissions. Then you need to go into groupings_military and add in date so that that you can choose that for your unit in units_to_groupings_military positions. That last part is easier in PFM because you can just type it in.

Im not sure if they are Date only but the names dissapeared again, Also would it effect anything if I added two new units to one mod. Sorry for being a noob this is the first time ive attempted to create my own mod.

You need to extract and edit the units.loc file for your unit names. And no, unless you edit something that another unit uses, like a projectile. You can add as many as you want.

So like extract it with PFM? Oh and also I got the Units so only the date can use them, Thanks ^^

No extract it with BOB. It should be under working_data/text. At the same time also extract the units table. Otherwise you get an error.

I got the Assembly kit to finally work recently and created a unit but how do get it to keep its custom color? I've changed its color and I unchecked the "use faction colors" but it still keeps the faction color.
