There are many ways to appreciate great and important art. You can pry it apart piece by piece to analyze the makings of it, or you can do as I do, and take it in as a whole. I'd like to devote this thread to all the great artists, and I hope you can make it your home by posting your favourite paintings here.

This painting is from MF Hussain, India's formost painter! The above actually caused some controversy from the opportunists in the Hindutva movement who expressed outrage at a Muslim painting a Hindu Goddess in the nude; nevertheless, many Hindus and Moslems still regard his work as excellent.

A very interesting picture, Clint Eastwood Finds Meryl and Madhuri (Bollywood Actress) on the Bridge of Madison County; it's very whimsical and quite nice.

The Presentation of Jesus in the Temple a painting by Rembrandt. I like this Rembrandt very much for his work with lighting; this picture, I actually re-did for my Art Class once, but I changed it to the Enlightenment of Buddha.*

    *had wrong painting.

I'm not going to go into much detail as the appeal of this lovely classical painting by Jacques Louis David should be understandable to anyone with a knowledge of the subject. So without further ado I present you with the "Death of Socrates"
