    Default Settlement types

Is there a way to keep a settlement as it's original type? For example, I conquer Jerusalem playing as France, it's a minor city, then I upgrade it to large city, it will no longer be a middle eastern settlement, and I think that is awful, some places would be good to change, for example Acre or Krak de Chaveliers (Crusades exp), because those places were really built by the Crusaders, now Jerusalem doesn't really make sense.

Any trick in game, or perhaps mod some files, I don't care if I have to change one by one, if there is a way, let me know.

you could let a middle eastern faction conquer your city and the retake it after they upgrade

I dont think its possible, because each faction has its own culture type. I might be wrong trough.

change their culture type? Or add pop jerusaelm at the start of the game then give egypt tonnes of money and let them upgrade it then take it back

That will make all of the cities they build look like the middle eastern ones.

What OP describe does not seem possible without a ton of modding, like adding a special settlement type just for Jerusalem.

I would have preferred that this all be avoided altogether by having cities like Constantinople, Jerusalem, Baghdad, Cordoba, and Rome start off as huge cities, which would be accurate.

Yea, making it a huge city from the start is the easiest way to keep it Middle Eastern, of course because you can't upgrade it anymore.

Aren't Total War games all about rewriting the history and not actually depicting history as it happened? The starting points should be accurate, but the rest is for you to write. In reality, the force that conquers the city/castle would also bring their own culture and architecture and thus transform the place. They would not care if it blends with the surrounding cultures or not. Constantinople is precisely such an example. The Ottomans were not worried about preserving the original architecture of Hagia Sofia when Constantinople fell.

Good point. But it's not a very popular opinion around here (i.e. many historical fans) .

For the starting point to be accurate, Constantinople should begin as a huge city, and same with a lot of the other cities I've mentioned.

Also, the Ottomans didn't change that much in Constantinople. The walls remained the same. The Hagia sophia changed only by adding new spires. In addition, "Istanbul" wasn't even adopted as the official name of the city until around 1900. Similarly, the crusaders didn't change Jersualem that much, and obviously didn't upgrade the city from large to huge.

That's why I think some cities should be changed and some not, for example Acre, Krak, etc, that I mentioned above. Of course all cities had some changes, but were minimal.

I couldn't agree more, everything you said was true, Jerusalem was still very islamic like, the buildings, the populace, only garrisoned by Crusaders in European surcoats and mail.
