This happened to me once before too in vanilla RTW...but anyway, I was playing RTR as the Romans, and the Greeks besieged one of my cities, and, not only that, on the same turn, they somehow got a ram and stormed the city! I don't mind giving the AI extra money and that kind of stuff, but this kind of cheating is just ridiculous.

Did the posibility of spy presence in your settlement ever cross your mind?

A spy does not mean you can build ram, it just means that they are able to take the gates out, thus they will be open on the battle map, but no rams.

thnxx 4 the enlightment(but already knew that)..but the same effect is achieved (AI storm in)..they queue the ram-spy open door bug create ram..happened dozen times to me as parthia vs. seleucids on rtr..other then thats not very important or often bug, so no big deal( just think how many exploits you can use or how many cities AI lost to you, whats one city..drop in the ocean..)...

A spy presence in the settlement might have crossed my mind if they didn't use battering rams to open the gates.

And I know, I'll get the city back (though it does hurt somewhat to lose it, since I'm just beginning the campaign and so only have 4 cities, not counting the one the AI took), but it's just really annoying when the AI can take a city in one turn like that. >_<

Yup, it's happened to me as well, using RTW 1.5 with XGM. Loads of times I've lost towns to the stupid AI coming along with a pitiable army that can magically conjure a ram out of thin air.

Well you should be having an army in your cities eh... You should be prepared for it, lol... :/

Do you station an army in every one of your towns ?

I have town watch in my smaller towns as a garrison. Nearby legions provide a degree of defence, capable of raising sieges whenever an enemy army attacks.

But if they automatically get rams, there's no siege is there? They just storm in and overpower my garrison. I don't think placing armies in cities has anythign to do with it.

To be sure, they had the Ram in the very turn when they began the siege? Without ANY building time?

    Strange.

Yup. Most I got it was about three times in a campaign.

    Yeah, that's exactly it.

I had a weak garrison in the city because I really didn't think it was likely to be attacked, plus I was trying to save money. I had just a unit of Italian Spearmen, a unit of Italian Swordsmen, and my faction leader in there.

I never had that. I had the AI striking my city on the turn of laying siege if they had elephants or such things as siege equipment...but that...I don't remember... :hmmm:
From the pride and arrogance of the Romans nothing is sacred. But the vindictive gods are now at hand. On this spot we must either conquer, or die with glory (Boudiccas Speech, Tacitus, Annals, XIV, 35)

I have never had this happen to me, only with elephants when Carthage or Seleucia tries to attack me. Usually im the one using my spies to storm their settlement when they least expect it. I especially love it when my full stack of professional soldiers under command of my best general attack a garrison of peasants.....i just love to watch them get slaughtered

Spadicus, not EVERY town... But like Rome has some units, and the more important towns have... So try to defend it with man 'n might!

This can happen. I don't know if it is a bug or feature, but if your city was seiged earlier than the seige equipment they constructed may still be there for the next army. At least for a couple of moves. Doesn't happen often fortunately.
