started campaign with belgium and wow

So i decided to try belgium, took a while to biuld a navy, my tech and build a nice little 3 stack army, i attacked germany and after some hard fighting got the 2 territories near belgium and holland, had a nice navy battle with my pre dreadnaught and thirs, i won in the end, and just as i won, they attacked with 3 more, lost my navy. All of that is leading up to this, after this norway decides to declare war on me, so i land a stack and take christianna or however you spell it, then denmark declare war on me, im like ok, fine now im fighting germany denmark and norway all at once. then and this is where it gets weird for me, England decides to declare war on me, all my allies leave except france and holland, im like uhm..huh? but i continue to war on almost all fronts, and i fight back the englist first wave, im thinking to myself i better take a chance so i make peace with germany because im almost surrounded by everyone, then all of a sudden france attacks me, i'm like wow!! so i hold them off and i must say out of all my enemies they are totally a tug o' war fight, i lose won they lose one(battle). meanwhile france is also at war with everyone, so i check the diplomacies of all nations, all of a sudden germany is at peace with most except me holland and france, and france and england are fighting back and forth...im not sure i'm even leading anywhere with this except that this is the funnest tgw campaign ive had, and im supprised all my allies turned on me and each other, and what ever funnier is all are at peace with germany and austria except romania and greece are fighting them...i didnt even know that everyone could turn on me lol and all i was doing was fight germany hard at the begining...honestly cant wait to continue this tommorrow, im totally gonna lose being they keep blockading my port and i have no way to build a navy...oh and i just took the city a little east of paris and pushing my way there, none will except peace so all i can think to do is fight on. Is it supposed to do this? i dont remember allies breaking alliance when i played this mod in the past..lol sorry i started this thread i just wanted to share this real fast before bed.

Had something similar, started as Switzerland, allied up with germany but then they suddenly broke alliances, and everything went wrong: Austria-Hungary and Germany were trying to kill each other (germany won , UK and Spain invaded France, and the russian revolution started in november 1914^^And as a Soviet and german army was invading luzern, i decided to restart my campaign

I've never seen the alliances break down like that, not even in a multiplayer campaign game that I and Mitch had (where the chance of randomness was admittedly higher given the two-player situation). But it sounds like a great bout of alternative history.

Presumably, the rationale behind the Belgian situation was that once you started taking territories (e.g. Norway) the other nations grew wary of your militaristic style and decided to attack you. This is a feature of vanilla N:TW wherein aggressive nations are punished by declarations of war. As far as the Swiss thing goes, that lands far outside my ability to understand what happened, haha.

And indeed, France is a beast. It's easy to understand why the German AI is struggling when the French are probably the best at pumping out units in rapid succession. I once played as Spain, leaned towards the German side and prepared for an invasion of Gibraltar, but the French started pounding my northeastern borders and I was soon overwhelmed by their artillery. At the same time, the British landed in the north, headed for Madrid. At that point I decided it was over and I gave up.

I think its because of the " Territorial Expansion " effect which makes other nations dislike you. Additionaly since they dislike you, and when playing as Belgium you probably don't have a high national prestige. So when the AI decides to declare war on you they take prestige into account. Thus they decide Belgium is an easy target for them.

I've had this happen in several other mods while playing as small nations ( Poland, Westphalia, Corsica etc... ). And it really sucks when stuff like that happens when you're playing as a region with no ports and all your neighbors decide to bully you. You just go absolutely broke in no time .

well today when i woke up i had been rebuilding a fleet in norway to make an effort to have a navy, i had 3 dreadnaughts being built, luckily i have a giant fleet of cargo ship which im certain they will soon take, anyway those FRENCH decide to land in norway near my docks and whiped em out, i wanted to cry, but troops are marching towards them and i have a stack about to hit paris. personally im going to ride this out til the end, its the biggest challenge ive had thus far and , well sometimes ones gotta lose, cant always win. The funny part is had i known all this, maybe i woulda waited til my allies push into germany then maybe i woulda swooped in and taken them lol.
By the way, i cant wait til 5.0 with all the materials you guys have posted im thinking this will be my favorite out of any total war out there, though the war to end all wars looks promising in it own way as well you guys definetally have done a fine job with this, just kinda cracks me up fighting guys in their 18th century uniforms sometimes, and that napolean guy needs to stop raiding me...lol

Ice noticed that as germany france always sends napoleon to attack me by himself, mostly he raids mines towns and farms but there are instances of him attacking an ungarrisoned city and getting destroy by garrison troops.

back and forth once again with france i took half their country and have been pushed back yet again to champlaign or w/e its called, the italians came up to assist france, germany too unreliable as they keep betraying my peace, holland has fallen to england who only seems to be at war with me now( man they are gettin nasty), in fact was about to send a stack to scottland to force a peace, from norway, when all of a sudden itally lands in norway...the madness continues, anyway i will stop posting my campaign i mainly started it because of all the alliances falling apart and targeting little ole' me, ironically germany is still at peace with everyone except russia and greece...kinda wishing for some peace time but diplomacy is near impossible and i am on vh/vh, when the game is better skinned id love to try those poor swiss, who definetally would have it back with no docks and weak economy. I notice btw that sweden always seems to get whiped out by norway every campaign which is funny because sweden can make good units and norway only has the lowly milita type(just an observation), soon as i figure out how to post picts of all this i will, been taking picts of my progress and whats happening , anyway thank you for the replies , can probably close this if ya like

As an earlier poster wrote, it is very possible that the low prestige of the nation (small nations barely have any) as well as the "territorial expansion" trait combine to turn other factions on you.

yes because i dont use the 4.8 thing, and now that belgium has taken most of france and attacked scottland everyones giving me some time of peace, except germany who decided to finally make war on me...again, im certain the peace wont last long though, it sure is hard for a little country to earn respect from the super powers and now that i liberated holland only them and the swiss are willing to be my allies lol, the problem with fighting englad was they blockaded my ports forever so i was bankrupt for a few turns fortunetly i had quite a few stacks and now ive almost got 2 dreadnaughts built and a few destroyers, hopefully i can have more navy battles..and survive...hmm and as for the swiss i might try them next time but im sure itll be even harder with no univerties for tech and no docks for cargo ships and a palace which only does limited troop types (all in 18th century uniforms lol) it will definetally be a challenge.

dont get me wrong id love to use the 4.8 unofficial thing but it causes to many ctds for me and as it is now i always have to save game because many battle cause me a ctd when loading, normally id give up, but im having so much fun that i dont mind

aww thanks, i hadnt tried the starpos 4.8.5 thing because i had so many problems in the past but i just installed it and now works fine, kinda nice looking at picts more to the time, sadly decided to restart as germany >; itll do til 5.0

I remember that it happened to me too, I started Portuguese campaign and in 3 rounds i captured Madrid and all my allies (France, UK, and Italy) Declared war and attacked me, i had only my main army, it was very weak and then a rebellion at Madrid forced me to retreat to my original borders all this in less than 10 rouns

gotta hand it to the oldest french man alive, take a lotta ballz to raid german towns by yourself dressed in your best 18th century wardrobe in the 1900's ...viva la napolean!
