Default Medieval 2 total war gold edition install problems

    Hi,

This is my very first post. I have issues regarding the installation of medieval 2 gold edition.
I insert disc 1, accept license agreement etc. setup then asks me to insert disc 2 and then it encounters a problem. It say´s that the game couldn´t be updated or something along those lines and then the installation will be aborted. It has been 3 hrs now and I am still not getting anywhere so that is why i decided to create an account and post my question here.

Btw: I did download this game first to try it out, I liked it and thats why I bought it afterwards. I deleted all the files by deleting everything that pops up when i searched with keywords like "medieval".

Any help will be much appreciated thank you (sorry for any grammar im from the Netherlands)

I saw a couple times a moderator here named irishron asking for dxdiag so i found out what that was and I will post it so if anyone needs to look into that its here. And to be more specific the game tells me:"This update 1.03.000 cannot be applied to this version of the game" and after that it says "failed to apply updates to medieval total war 2. aborting installation". Please help me Its really frustrating

Odds are you still have registry problems.
    1. Uninstall your preasent install in Add/Remove Programs.
    2. Delete both folders if you installed it in the defautl folder.
    3. Run Eusing free registry cleaner or Ccleaner, the free version of either.
    4. Disable the UAC.
    5.Reboot.
    6. Install in C:\Games with the UAC disabled.

Nice computer. Any problems, let us know.

Now, to double post and answer your PM.
    1. Win 7/8 and Vista have a bad habit of hiding things. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=397636 will help find the second one and help solve some future problems.
    2. Disabling the UAC = http://www.mydigitallife.info/how-to...-in-windows-7/

Ok I think my UAC was already disabled? At least the slider bar which was explained in the link you provided me was at the minimum at "never notify" and as for the apdata virtual hidden stuff i did find a med2 folder there and deleted it. In the menu of my computer the box for show hidden maps was already checked so I think i can try installing now?

I didnt reboot after ccleaner and tried again but it didnt work same problem this 1.03.000 update cant be applied to this version of the game.. So i think there is still a leftover from the old version somewhere. After that i ran ccleaner again rebooted and tried installation again with "run as administrator" again, failed to solve the issue. Thanks for your help irishron really appreciate it, if you have any more suggestions i'l gladly try it out.

I followed the guide to manually uninstall med 2 I had seen it before but it turns out I didnt get rid of everything.. I followed the guide and in regedit there were still a lot of medieval files i deleted everything and FINALLY i didnt get the error message. The game is installing now medieval 2 is on 75%-ish and another setup window is waiting to start I assume this is the kingdom expansion and will install after the base game is complete.. So I will update on the progress and irishron many thanks for your help and the links you provided!!

Hi there i have had the same problem like above unfortunately i could not figure out why it would not install because i have deleted every single file and followed the steps like above.
What i did was i downloaded the 1.2 and 1.3 patch
    1.2 patch download: http://www.gamershell.com/download_19011.shtml
    1.3 patch download: http://www.gamershell.com/download_20881.shtml
After downloading this and installing the patches i was able to install kingdoms.

    Hope it helps you out!
