    Default Help With Campaign, and Help With Charges

    Hey all,

    I'm having a lot of trouble playing the campaign; even on a lower difficult (medium), I just can't afford anything; I've tried playing as factions with less fringe territories to defend, i.e. Isengard, but there's just no physical way to build a large enough army to defend myself. Rohan comes up with many armies and destroys me. I build lots of resource buildings, i.e. lots of farms as Gondor, but I can't afford a nice army... this kind of difficulty isn't strategy, it's tedious I love it, otherwise. I just can't play the campaign.

    Also, is there a fix for the charge bugs in M2TW? Like when only the first rank charges into battle and the rest stay back, not helping at all, forcing me to sprint my troops past/into the enemy, which kinda of destroys any charge bonus and loses me some troops. Any ideas?

    I still love this mod!

    Regards,
    - HateDread.

    Isengard and Gondor are the 2 hardest factions lol. You were just unlucky picking your first campaigns.

    Try Harad on E/E or M/M.
    At the start focus on getting all of the territories south of the river that seperates you from Gondor. Also propose an alliance to Rhun, they will most likely accept.
    Harad starts out being allied to Mordor, and to your west is only water. If Rhun accepted your alliance proposal, you will only need to worry about a small front with Gondor.

    Build up an army to battle with Gondorian forces. Once you feel confident enough, try taking one of Gondor's coastal settlements.
    TATW is more difficult than M2TW because you have to be more careful when expanding.

    On the charge bug, I've read somewhere that it isn't a bug, but it has to do with the command level of the general. I'm not sure on this one though.

    Haven't heard that the "charge bug" depends on the command level of the general.

    But try click behind the units you want to charge into and when your units are moving click on the AI unit It somewhat do the work for me!

    Hi HateDread,

    well met

    as general rule TATW is more difficult than standard MTW2, 'cause some features (like corruption or population growth) have been "worsened" in order to make the game much challenging for expert players, none the less it remains a great mod , you have to plan carefully your investments to balance economic growth with military expansion.

    anyway I suggest you to read this post http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=568344 and this http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=257891, both are very useful. You can also look on Guide&Resources for specific suggestions on different factions.

    with regards to charge issue, in my experience with TATW (buth if IRC it was already improved in Kingdoms too) it is much better than M2TW, you have to be aware of two facts: if you give double click attack command to your units when they are too far from the enemy they will run to them but not charge in, at the same time if too close to the enemy (especially with cavalry) they will not have enough space to reach the correct speed and do not charge effectively. As a general rule when you make single click attack your units will walk close to the enemy and when at right distance they will start the charge. Others may add more details according to their experience

    I hope it helps

    I recommend an elven faction there untis are strong, they begin not that big and I my opinion its easy to gain money because there economy is very good. Anyway keep playing the mod im sure you will become better in the future and will play on VH/VH. Good luck !

    I agree with SilvanElve. Try playing Elven factions first. I'd recommend trying with HE first of all. Or Harad, as Wizad suggested. Depends on whether you want to play an evil faction or good faction. I don't know anything about Harad, except that you'll be steamrolling when you get Mûmakil. Just avoid ballista's and javelin-throwers.

    But for the High Elves it's easy, but because of their slow recruitment and bad economy (Don't listen to SilvanElve, their economy is the worst in the game) it can be challenging if you don't do the right moves at start. I usually send Mithlond's and Elostirion's forces to Lunelaith, make Mithlond my capital (it's lore-ish enough) and garrison Lindons's forces to the ship, to avoid a Bandit army lurking in the forest south of you, and send them south to Lond Daer. But those are the most important moves at start. Remember to use archers, no matter what faction you're playing, but archers especially if you're playing as Elves. The best human archer unit can be found from FPoE, from the ranks of the Dúnedain, whereas the best human archer faction is Dale.

    Alright guys, I'm back to playing as Harad on Medium, and it's going alright. Gondor is a problem, but I think I can beat them back. How do I get Mumakil?

    Here's the charge problem occurring yet again, even when I only single-click when attacking. They charged in a single line

    mmm are you sure they were far enough from the enemy? when they move close with single click there is only one movement arrow, but when charging should become two movement arrows. Anyway, try doing this with cavalry also, as I'm 100% sure it works like this with cav and is easier to see the final effect (i.e. enemies flying away, knights pushing through the enemy line, etc).

    I also think it is better if you make some tests with single units in custom battles.

    Ciao

    Yeah, maybe Bowmaster is right I would go for the Silvan elves because the HE economy isnt that good.

    as far as i am aware, that bug is related to the animations that units have. if a unit has to stop to do the charge animation, then this bug occurs, so only the front ranks charge. its really unfortunate to say the least, vanilla doesnt have this issue. the only conceivable way to fix this would be to check the animations of units that do this, and to somehow fix them.

    sorry if i cant help you more than that. maybe go to the bug thread and post it there. ill vouch.

    You have too get the correct charge distance for one thing, from a stopped and organized position, charges work much better that way. They work better in real life that way too come too think of it, thats why we have that thing called a start line.

    Use your <> signs to position for charge they get into correct formation quicker from the march, add look pretty cool doing it.

    To get Mumakil- first you need to pass I think like 40 turns to get your good military. Then if any of your cities are large enough you can build a Mumakil training camp.(I believe Umbar starts out large enough) You may also need a certain level of barracks which you can also build in Umbar

    Code:
    building mumakil
    {
        levels mumakil_training_ground
        {
            mumakil_training_ground city requires factions { spain, }  and hidden_resource mumakil and building_present_min_level equestrian knights_stables
            {
                capability
                {
                    recruit_pool "Mumakil"  1   0.07   2  0  requires factions { spain, }
                }
                material wooden
                construction  6
                cost  5800
                settlement_min large_city
                upgrades

            }
        }
        plugins
        {
        }
    }
    Red means you need a special region with the Mumakil recourse
    Green mean you need to have the first level of stables built in the region.

    You also need to have gone through the Military Script or whatever it's called, which should come around turn 40-50.

    Content's well good, innit.

    Actually there used to be a bug that made it impossible for Harad to recruit Mumakil, Moneybags made a script that fixes it. Is the script from Moneybags already added to TATW 3.2? If not, HateDread might need to edit the game files.

    Does anyone have the script from Moneybags nearby?
