The Norseman's Third Age Total War Faction Guides by The Norseman - Review by Mhaedros

    Author: The Norseman
    Original Threads:

The Norseman's Third Age Total War Faction Guides The Norseman's Third Age Total War guides are very well written pieces of work and clearly shows his experience in both writing and TATW itself. The guides are very informative, although at times maybe too much so. They are easy to follow and should fit very well for both experienced and inexperienced players of TATW. The guides are also equipped with beautiful artwork and pictures directly from The Norseman's own campaigns.

The author of these guides has done a very good job in balancing the units with the actual campaign. His guides are very helpful indeed if you find yourself always getting stuck in your campaigns, and even if you don't, these guides might very well help you some day.

To Recognize or not to Recognize: the British Predicament During the American Civil War by Derpy Hooves - Review by Påsan.

To Recognize or not to Recognize: the British Predicament During the American Civil War
The reason I, at this time, chose to review this article by Derpy Hooves was in large part due to the fact that I found the subject matter extremely interesting. Derpy has written a long and detailed essay regarding the British involvement with the American Civil War and its interactions with the two sides. According to Derpy, the British Empire had a interesting choice between the Confederates and the Union due to the fact that they imported 85% of their cotton from the Southern American states, and thus was economically inclined to recognize the Confederate state. Yet, on the other side, the Union threaten with war on anyone who recognized the opposing side, and the British Empire would then find itself in a war which would draw huge resources away from their other political interests. Then there is the fact that supporting a State that based itself on Slavery was morally wrong.

During his essay, Derpy gives long and well-phased arguments why the British Empire chose to act as they did. His essay is structured into three parts each looking at a different perspective of the war while at the same time keeping a clear connection between the three. If I had one criticism to the essay it is that I found the Introduction and Conclusion not quite to be up to par to the main argumentative part, and the essay definitively requires some historical knowledge. When that is said, the argumentative part is excellent, and gives a good overview of the situation, the formatting and language is masterly done and the subject matter and sources are both interesting and well-presented. I definitively learned some history while reading the essay.

A very good read for most history enthusiasts out there.

The Danube Limes" by Constantinus - Review by Princess Luna

    Author: Constantius
    Original Thread: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=531621

The Danube Limes "The Danube Limes" is a well written and documented text about the Eastern Roman/Byzantine border in the Balkans during the 5th and 6th century AD, and what groups of barbarians was a threat in those areas after the collapse of the Hunnic "empire".

Constantinus has shown himself as a good and knowledgeable writer on the subject with this essay. He has used proper sources and the information is told in a easy to understand but still informative way. I can honestly say that I know next to nothing about the Balkans in that time period, but I managed to understand what he was talking about without problems.

I can recommend this to anyone interested in the history of the Balkans or the Roman Empire. By that; most of this sites members. So go read it!

Medieval Total War 2 Settlements & Siege Guide by Sitalkes - Review by Gen. Chris

    Author: Sitalkes
Original Thread: Version 2 of the Medieval Total War 2 Settlements & Siege Guide has been completed!

Medieval Total War 2 Settlements & Siege Guide Medieval Total War 2 Settlements & Siege Guide is a highly informative guide composed by Sitalkes. In it readers will find a wealth of information regarding siege tactics, both offensive and defensive. The quality of the work is quite apparent on first glance: pictures and many detailed explanations of how to conduct battles in a variety of settlement types are quite abundant. It is quite clear that Sitalkes spent a great deal of time compiling the information and pictures, with the additional input of other members. If you are ever in need of help when conducting a siege or defending against one, look no further than this guide.
