Your thoughts on this? I'm happy to see people exposed to different perspectives, whether it fits your world view or not. Good? Bad? Doesn't matter?

Mostly shrug-worthy. Could be that this will further enlarge the sometimes disconnected dual narrative that al-Jazeera Arabic and al-Jazeera English has, but since that's mostly relegated to the op-eds I'm not toooo worried. But anyway people in the know realize that the place to go to for Arabic/Mideast news in America is al-Hurra, being Washington-based and Congress-funded and all. Might be AJ is trying to slice into that pie.

The most entertaining aspect of this otherwise mundane media news is the amount of conspiracy theories that could be launched when people see "Al Gore" and "Al-Jazeera" put together. Could be comedy gold. "Global warming is a front for the islamic caliphate" etc etc

It's a free market, and you have a hundred avenues for news.

It's the long game, where they need a game changing scoop/story some where down the road to bring viewers to their channel and keep them there.

Isn't it funny that Al Gore is cashing on 100 millions U$D from Big Oil ?

The biggest oil companies on the Globe are the same Arab oil companies that finance Al Jazeera ... so I guess oil-money is good in Al Gore pocket.

I didn't realise that ExxonMobil, Royal Dutch Shell, Sinopec and BP were all Arab-owned and run.

Saudi Aramco is the biggest oil company in the world, have been such for the past decade or so, so don't be too quick to get a forum boner. BP and Co works for them, and the Saudi model is generally what is used around the Middle East, so Aramco is the true Big Oil, which is fitting since Al Baby sold his network to Al Jazeera. But lets not get in the way of Jom feeling smart by show how dumb Menelik is !

Saudi Aramco (Arabic: أرامكو السعودية‎ ʾArāmkō s-Saʿūdiyyah), officially the Saudi Arabian Oil Company, is a Saudi Arabian national oil and natural gas company based in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.[5][6]Saudi Aramco's value has been estimated at up to 10 trillion US$ (almost the GDP of the United States) in the Financial Times, making it the world's most valuable company.[7][8][9]

Saudi Aramco has both the largest proven crude oil reserves, at more than 260 billion barrels (4.1×1010 m3), and largest daily oil production.[10] Headquartered in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia,[11] Saudi Aramco operates the world's largest single hydrocarbon network, the Master Gas System. Its yearly production is 7.9 billion barrels (1.26×109 m3),[4] and it managed over 100 oil and gas fields in Saudi Arabia, including 279 trillion standard cubic feet (scf) of natural gas reserves.[4]

Qatar Petroleum (QP) is a state owned petroleum company in Qatar. The company operates all oil and gas activities in Qatar, including exploration, production, refining, transport, and storage. QP's Chairman & Managing Director Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada, is also the head of the Ministry of Energy and Industry of Qatar. QP’s operations are therefore directly linked with state planning agencies, regulatory authorities, and policymaking bodies. Together, revenues from oil and natural gas amount to 60% of the country’s GDP. Currently it is the third largest oil company in the world by oil and gas reserves.[1]

I doubt Gore has many qualms over taking money that mainly comes from natural gas production. He sees it as a viable bridge fuel until renewables can replace fossil fuels.

Now now, take your beating like a man and say "I was wrong." Jesus...
Sure I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is Im not. I honestly feel that America is the best country and all other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

I thought you said it would be providing "pro-Muslim" reporting. What's fair and balanced about that? Could you point out any articles with a pro-Israeli slant on the BBC, or better yet name those who are self-proclaimed as pro-Israel?

It's the market. I've never seen Gore to proclaim himself to be anti-capitalist. He just wants sustainable capitalism.

Try looking up his stance for yourself, just like I did before posting that.

Its the market allright but not in the holy cow way many still envision the market. The only value in the channel is the reach of its airways potentially getting into 51 million american households, and guess how a crappy channel like that got such reach?

Thats right, Al Gore's and many other US politicians and/or their spouses holding shares using their political leverage on this piece of public property.

But whats new....(is what Im saying)

    Sure:

Here is a quote from the wiki article:

Former BBC Middle East correspondent Tim Llewellyn wrote in 2004 that the BBC's coverage allowed an Israeli view of the conflict to dominate, as demonstrated by research conducted by the Glasgow Media Group.[45]

Al Gore is taking money from oil cartels, squeezing in his sale before taxes go up, then saying how the world is going to hell in a hand basket because of people using oil and that irch people like him don't pay their fair share of taxes. Let's not forget his ocean front mansion that will be destroyed by the rising tide and his carbon belching private jet.

He's either retarded or a Republican disguised as a Democrat disguised as a Green.

I can't take him seriously. No one else should either.

He's probably a genius marketer though. Be enough of a douche, sell the opposite view to the one that benefits you, also profit from the view point you're pitching to pick up money on that side too, profit like a mother er.

The man is a god damned genius. I can't believe I didn't see it before.
