Default rometotalrealism.com or .org which more accurate version?

Guys im new to the site & apologise if this is in the wrong section im just after some feedback. Which site is the most recent & also which version do u guys think is more historically accurate? rometotalrealism.com or .org downloads?

I have both copies on my computer & am undecided. The .com version seems strange with Gaul having such far flung armies for a start. On the other hand the gold .org version archers are quite underpowered & all cavalry units seem to have the exact same charge bonus. Also which has the more accurate units as i notice some of those differ too.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated & thanx in advance.

Rometotalrealism.org is the official website of the Rome: Total Realism mod. This is stated on the VERY FRONT PAGE of that website. Rometotalrealism.com is the OLD website for the modification Rome: Total Realism and is no longer owned by the devs - it was owned by a previous developer who had issues with the team and sold it to someone else who had the intention of purely using the site for advertising revenue. The content on that site is illegally copied from the official website, however we are powerless to stop them.

So the most recent version of RTR is RTR 6.0 Gold (as it incorporates the 6.0, 6.1, 6.2 and 6.3 patches all in one download), available from the rometotalrealism.org website - NOT the RTR 6.2 that is available from the .com. There is another version made by fans, called RTR Platinum that is compatible with the latest patch for RTW (1.5, though there are ways to make it work with BI/1.6). As always, the most recent version is the most realistic and historically accurate, though we still have a way to go until it can be considered as accurate as possible.

As an aside, Gaul's "far flung armies" were a feature of an earlier version of RTR. It is not a bug; a tribe of Gauls invaded Greece ca 280BC but was eventually repelled by the Macedonians. They then moved into central Asia Minor and formed the settlement of Galatia. Galatians were vastly important mercenaries in the ancient world. In regards to the archers: one must remember that in this period of time archers were, frankly, crap. Eastern archers were decent, but there was nothing quite as good as the longbow that appeared some centuries (heck, millenia) later. You cannot fire on a heavily armoured unit from the front and expect half of them to die like they do in movies (though admittedly some of the kill rates are unrealistically low - RTR Platinum has addressed this, however, and you now get a handful of kills per volley). Cavalry charge bonuses are somewhat misleading; in the official RTW1.2 patch, the charge bonus attribute was extremely bugged in that it barely made any difference whatsoever. Only extreme numbers one way or the other would actually do anything, but most of the impact of a charge came from the cavalry's speed and mass. So, to get around this, the RTR team made all the charge bonuses the same and simply modified the speed and mass to properly depict a realistic cavalry charge. This problem has been fixed in the RTW1.5 patch, so RTR Platinum has more understandable values.

I hope that answers your questions and concerns.

Thanks very much you have been most helpful I also just found out about the platinum version & am downloading that as i type. I'll uninstall the .com copy. Quick question if u c this could i just patch my gold copy with the original 1.2 data folder (vanilla version) i backed up then patch with 1.5 & install platinum or should i start completely from scratch? Also r gold/platinum save files compatible or will my gold version save games crash the game?

You should always start from scratch when installing any mods, as it could cause unforseen problems. It may be a good idea to have an extra copy of the vanilla RTW folder made seperate from your RTR folder if you have the hard drive space available. This way you've always got a backup should anything go wrong.

Regarding the saves, I believe RTR Gold saves are *tentatively* compatible with Platinum. That is to say, you should be able to load the campaign but you will run into problems, such as victory conditions not working properly and such. I strongly suggest you restart your campaigns.
