He might get traits like cowardly and dislikes blood or something similar, but the chances are low for that happening.
hmm yeah I thougt so that the traits would be negatif
thanks for your fast reply my friend.
i am not sure actually. I think you only get those if you loose the battle. You get scarred and brave traits for fighting though

If memory serves correctly......
The general recieves all kinds of good traits from fighting and running down routers, but does risk some bad traits by not being thrown into the fray. If your bodygaurd gets mauled but prevails there's always the chance of getting the "scarred" hit point bonus but also getting wounded and needing to rest to heal.
Truthfully I've forgetten the differences between the original MTW traits and the ones added through the various modifications such as
"Stainless Steel and the like.

Not entirely true, it's more complicated. I've read all about those battlechivalry/dread and how do they work months ago. It has something to do with the number of men you general (as a single man, not the entire unit (with the bodyguards) ) kills or something like that. It matters if you outnumber or not your enemies, of course.
Also, try beating half a stack of spears with a single general (very easy, as you well know) and you'll see some dread traits flowing in.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
I believe they may still get some traits, like GoodDefender traits, even if his unit never fought in the battles themselves.
But yes by and large, you are denying your generals the chances of getting some good traits by doing nothing during a battle.
Your bodyguards will not gain experience and will die easily with their soft, pampered lordling.
Hmm, I know that Winning First is named BattleDread in the descr_character_traits.

Oh well, maybe you're right then.

high dread are amazing in battles, but sadly things that add dread will decrease your trustworthyness and make it hard for you to get ally and negotiating ceasefires.
If you keep your general out of the fight it seems you are more likely to get ancilliaries such as the shieldbearer, who gives you a plus to your hit points but a minus to your troops' morale. Conversely, fighting fiercely with your general will get you ancilliaries such as the bezerker and the veteran
Those are quite illustrative posts you seem to make Tortas, any particular reason as to why they are as such?
