I'd like to play a world-map mod, complete with new factions... Yes, I understand it will be a logistical nightmare

Eras: Total Conquest is a world map.

Unfortunately there is a settlement limit hard coded into the game that cannot be changed legally - so any map can only have a maximum of 199 settlements on it. Which makes world maps a bit strange. But still, give Eras a go, it's fun.
