PI New Year's Preview: Carthage offices and traits
Here is the new Carthagian Constitution that we have created with traits and ancillaries
We have two branches, that is the "royal branch", open to members of the royal family, and the "senatorial branch" open to everyone else.
Besides this there are two offices that are open to members of both branches:
Skn

Governor of a town.
This office can be acquired by everyone of at least 20 years by achievement or nepotism. It is held until the character is admitted into the Council of the Elder, becomes a general, faction leader or -heir.
Bcl

General.
This office has no age requirement. It can be acquired by winning battles or staying in enemy lands under certain requirements. Having a father who is/has been general certainly helps, but a father who is a dismissed general can seriously ruin your chances.
Each general has to stand before the Trial of the 104. The outcome is always positive when you sent a general to Carthage and leave him there for a few turns. He then becomes a retired ex-general. As such he can be reactivated by being sent into enemy lands, being under siege or fighting battles (not againts slave to avoid re-activation after fighting pop-up rebels).
The trial but can have a negative outcome in case of something bad has happened. This would be:
- a battle has been lost (members of the royal family are immune against the sentence of the 104)
- the general routs (immune: members of the royal family, members of the 104)
- high casualties (immune: members of the royal family, members of the 104 and their sons)
In case of a negative outcome the general will become a dismissed general who cannot be re-activated as general, has some negative effects and makes it harder for his sons to become generals.
The royal branch is headed by the king, of course.
Mlk

HM the King
The faction leader always is the king. May be we can implement some kind of reforms for Carthage later that allows to turn this faction either into a true republic or an absolut monarchy.
Mmlkt

HRH the Prince of Carthage
This title is given to (all) sons of a king. It also is generically held by the faction heir as designation, even though not the trait in case the faction heir not is son of a king.
It gives +5 Authority
Blt

HH member of the royal family
This trait is hereditary passed down from father to son. It also is held by sons of a king who himself not are members of the royal family, that way founding a new dynasty.
It gives +3 Authority
Because no else has any authority by traits, the princes, and after them the members of the royal family, would have preference when the game picks the next heir. Being of proper blood would also give the king a good starting value of +8 in Authority.
Members of the royal family cannot acquire any senatorial offices (see below), but they are immune against persecution of the 104, and that way would make good generals. When a character holding senatorial office becomes king he would keep those offices but would not acquire any new offices.
The senatorial branch
Hbr

Member of the Council of the Elder
A character can become a member of the Council of the Elder with the age of 30 earliest, depending on lineage, "good shoes and the right attitude".
Rbhbr

Member of the Council of the 30
Leading figures of the senate can be admitted into the board of the 30, the head assembly of the senate. Being a member of the 30 is requirement to be elected suffet.
Spt
Suffets, or shophets, are elcted from the members of the 30. This office is held for one year, from winter to winter. Historically this office is held collegial, not necessarily limited to two at a time. In game there is no fixed ammount of suffets you have per year, which can be none, one, two or more, depending on how many family members qualify.
Vpj

Member of the Council of the 104.
This council is populated by the ex-suffets and would usually be the final step on the ladder of sentarorial offices.
Rb

The Great Rab
This is is the highest ranking administrator in Carthage. Ths office is held by lifelong appointment and not is transferable. When the old holder dies a new one is elected from the ranks of the 104.

That's the preview about the new Carthage office represented by traits - and yes that's it for this topic. In game there is of course more new to discover about Carthage (new buildings, new family members, new units etc).
