I first came across this product when browsing Battle-Merchant earlier this year. I did not need it the however, as I bought more essential things for my reenactment, like a sword and a spearhead at that time.

But now I more or less needed it. For a long time, I did not have a shield, leaving me to use spear+sword, or sword+a tiny axe. This did not work very well, especially since my sword was way to clumsy to be used as a quick secondary weapon to my spear. So I ordered this seax, along with a axe-head and some more stuff for Christmas.

As earlier, it arrived in a week, and I got to test it recently together with my Dane-axe. As expected, it is a really good sidearm.

I got multiple kills with it, as it is small enough to be moves around shields and similar quickly. Also people tend to forget that I have it.

The price was a bit high, almost as much as my (cheap) sword. But, as it comes ready for battle, with a scabbard and considering that it is quite a big knife; I would say it is a reasonable price. After doing some research, I have found that most daggers of that size costs more or less the same as this one.

The size is quite good. It is long enough to be used in fighting whiteout dying every time, and short enough to be held together with a pole-arm, and in a horizontal scabbard.

It is however, not that good to block with. There is no crossguard of any kind, making swords likely to slide down the blade and hit my fingers. That is not a nice feeling.

A thing that disappointing me was that the wood on the handle is not attached perfectly. It moves around slightly, making the seax give of clicks and move around slightly if i swing it. Not a big problem, but it is quite irritating, as I would want it to be prefect.

The blade does get damaged, but not much. The metal feels harder than in my sword.

Who I had to file down because of the saw-like edge was becoming dangerous.

This is a acceptable amount of damage in my mind.

When it comes to historical accuracy, this knife is okay. It is a bit old to represent the late 900's, but to old is better than to new. The style might be a bit Saxon/German too, but I could not find any viking knife suitable for fighting.

All in all I am happy with this seax. It is perfect as a secondary weapon, and that is what it is supposed to be. The price is what you would expect, and though the knife itself has some minor problems, I am happy with it. I can recommend it to anyone wanting a good sidearm for dark ages-early middle ages in northern Europe, then this is absolutely a good choice!
