I am having the exact same issue that this user is having: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=571768

First of all, I just downloaded--and am using--the newest version of RSII (2.5).

Basically my settings, prefs, like Use high res unit models and post-marian general won't save and are gone the next time I open up the launcher. In other words I will check the option for use high res models, press save, close the launcher, reopen it, and the option will be unchecked once again. I didn't have this problem in the older versions of RSII.

My screen becomes very, very bright when I launch the game. I realize that this may have to do with bloom, but I haven't found a way to disable it.

Surely other people have had this problem?

    Nevermind...
I found out how to fix the problem myself.

It would be helpful that when people find solutions to problems that they post how they resolved the issue.

It means that others can search topics and find solutions.

Okay, here's what I did to resolve this issue:

I went into the folder on my computer where I installed RSII and where all of the files were. I opened the folder titled Launcher and copied the launcher itself to my desktop while getting rid of the default shortcut to the launcher that I had been using to launch the game, which didn't save my preferences as I pointed out. For some reason, the default shortcut that was automatically put there by the installer wouldn't save my preferences--why? I don't know.

Now, the bright screen problem is caused by the bloom effect as pointed out by other users. What confused me was the fact that I had unchecked the bloom effect option in the launcher and was still getting problems with the bright screen, so I had assumed that bloom was turned off; this wasn't the case. Although the bloom option had been deselected, it was still present because I had fiddled with it earlier and had selected Dark Bloom before deciding bloom wasn't for me and deselecting it from the options. It seems that, once you select a bloom option, and whether or not the bloom checkmark is present after selecting a bloom option, it is still applied to your game regardless. What you need to do is check the Bloom option again and select No Bloom. And voila, your problem is gone.

Some of these steps may seem--or in all actuality BE--superfluous. However, it is essential to keep in mind that these are the steps I took to fix said problems and may not work for everyone. If you are having these problems, it's worth a shot.
