    Default 3d Design s/w

Hi everyone, i am thinking of trying a bit of modding, after reading various posts i can see that most people use the 3ds MAX package, is this a free package or do i have to buy? would any 3d s/w package be of use? it may be that this is all made clear else where, if it is can you just re-direct me? Cheers

You can only use 3dsmax to model in RTW. There is a 30 day free trial but the full product is not free, and is expensive.

You can try your luck on google for "3d model freeware" and see what you get. There is a program called Maya (?) that is free, but it isn't a very good program by comparison.

You only need to use a 3d model program if you want to make completely new units that have a different skeleton - just changing the type of helmet or shield design, etc. doesn't require a 3d modeling program.

Of course, you could always find a friend who has a copy, so long as it does not violate the user agreement because that would be bad as well as not allowed in discussion on this forum.

Cheers for the pointer,to be honest i dont really know where to start, did a bit of c++ at college etc, dont know to go for the graphic route or the codeing. Just had a little lad so wifey wants me to stop in more and, really just looking for something to fill the evenings in. I like the TW series (started with Shogun) and this could be the thing i actually stick too. (well i dont think the PC will end up with the golf clubs in the shed )

Maya is way more advanced than 3dsmax, if you are just starting out i would suggest to try Blender. Its an open source 3d modelling program. I guess after a couple of years you can move on to something like 3dsmax if you are still interested.

For the last time: You can only use 3dsmax to edit models for RTw, as there is only an improt/export script for the .cas model files used in RTw for 3dsmax. It wont work with any other program.

Id suggest downloading gmax first,as its the same as 3dsmax,but it cant render images/videos.If youll learn gmax, itll be VERY easy to work in 3dsmax.But theres the same problem - you cant export units into RTW.

anim8or is a nice little tool. That's what gave me my first 3D modelling experience. Very easy to use, but once you're used to working in 3D envirements it's better to move on to something more advanced asap.
