Default A Game of thrones Book 1 discussion ( no spoilers past book 1 please.)

i thought this would be a good place to discuss the very first book of the song and ice series.
this is so people who are just starting to read will be able to discuss events and theories without risking having their socks blown off.

Now you can use this as a review system where you says exactly how it made you feel. whats your favourite charictor, who do you hate, where do you think its going and finally differences in the film to the book what would you have kept what would you have changed.

    Now me first........

I actually loved this book, now ill be honest i actually read this after seeing the series advertised on the billboard outside of my office. being a big LOTR fan having Sean Bean on the cover defiantly caught my interested ( along with sexy cersei, Lena Heady.)

Now when it came to reading the book ( after season 1 ended.) i was quite surprised to see how accurately they actually portrayed the book ( normally its as will all agree an utter let down.) and how accurately events where portrayed.

now criticisms ( remember this is just an opinion everyone has one doesn't mean its wrong just add dont critise me please )

now believe it or not, but i have very little bad to say about this book. Its good to see where he got alot of his inspiration for his epic world in every day life in england. ( i live here now after i moved from Valyria or italy as some know it.)

1.now my cousin is vertically challenged ( or a dwarf as you call them but i know he does not like this term.) and if he says tyrion seems to be a little excited all the time ( jumping from a ledge etc.) would in fact put Nic in hospital for weeks. Though he loves tyrion as a charictor as he said its nice to see someone in a role that doesnt belittle his kind.

2.also i think Jon Snow is abit of an emo, knows his brothers are going and wants to go to the wall and sulk.

3.Eddard is abit of a noble idiot, if honesty is what he rates highest in life just tell robert the truth i no he's dieing but grrrrrrrrr you believe he is going to a heaven like place he will know anyway......

4.and Joff is just your averige rich pysco the kind of guy you take lazer quest but not home to your parents.

    Final rating

    Book 10
    Series 9

    what do you all think.?

MODS- i think it would be cool to do one of these for every book but see how this goes first as i don't want to spam the forum.

Really great book overall, the King's Landing chapters were always awesome.

If I was in Jon Snow's shoes, I'd probably be emo too. Just the fact that you aren't 100% stark blood means you cannot inherit anything, so you get to see your brothers become lords and own castles and just be utterly rich; your sisters become princesses and ladies, while there is no place for you whatsoever.

We all know Ned as being a political idiot, but thats the pay-off for being such a good person. To this day he's still one of my favorite characters, but I would never have appointed him Hand. Then again Robert didn't trust anyone, but his good friend Ned. What else could he have done? (Appoint Stannis, damn it!)

Ned is too honorable to play with the lanisters in kings landing. Also Jon is your typical Westros Emo, kinda sucks that he looks more stark then all of his brothers and sisters except Arya. Also I feel bad for Bran. First time watching people have sex, Gets paralyized. Love the memes about that.

This is in my top 10 favorite books as the entire Series is in my top 6. This book is defenitley a 9/10 for me

I really liked the first book, except for the fact that Ned is so stupid politically. He only makes mistakes and even though Cersei is unable to keep her incest secret, he STILL messes up and warns her! WHY?! Nobody is that noble (or stupid)! Apart from that it was a great book. 8.5/10

I really hope Bran turns out to be a bit better at politics

Brilliant, right from the prologue it draws you into its world, and looking back, what it does particularly well is introduce to Westeros, its history and its culture by starting with all the main players in the same place at the start. Ned, Cat, Bran, Jon, Sansa, Arya, Tyrion, Jaime, Robert, Cersei, The Wall. Then stuff starts going down and they scatter all over Westeros. For a very complicated world politcally and historically, you are able to get the basics down easier than you realise.

And then Sharpe dies and your world collapses around you. Thats when you realise that GRRM plays for keeps.
Always keep your foes confused. If they are never certain who you are or what you want, they cannot know what you are like to do next. Sometimes the best way to baffle them is to make moves that have no purpose, or even seem to work against you - Littlefinger
