Battle map game crash

I need help, my game keeps crashing after I load a battle, either on custom game or with campaign. Does anyone else has this problem and how do I solve this? Should I delete TATW and M2TW and its expansions and reinstall them?

Sounds like you might have the daylight savings time bug. There are threads in the forum with details, but you might want to try unchecking the box that has automatic daylight savings time enabled in your Windows settings. Hope this helps.

I can't seem to find the 'automatic daylight savings time', and I can't find windows settings (or 'instellingen' in dutch) is it under configuration? I'm sorry I'm a caveman with computers... However, I don't think that's the problem because half a year ago the game worked fine on the same computer and I haven't changed the settings or something like that. When I run 'problemsolving' when right clicking on the TATW icon it says that I have to select a valid programm with the extension .exe, but TATW can actually launch but only crashes when loading a battle map. Another mod I installed SS6.4 works fine as long as I run it as an administrator (strange because I'm the only user of this computer) but when I launch TATW as administrator it just errors

Deleting these two files in the TATW data folder should fix the problem:

descr_georgraphy_new data base file
descr_georgraphy_new text document

If using Windows 7 or UAC disable UAC first. (see here)

Hey guys, im having the same problem. For custom games, i dont crash. For some campaign games, i dont crash. But on some i DO crash and its mad annoying. Things ive done to fix it include:
uninstalling completely "read at least 10 different posts on how to uninstall correctly and made sure i got everything"
reinstalling completely 3.0 p1, p2, 3.1, 3.2 "again, all went into the correct spots" (My one note on this will include, I install it to the correct spot C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\Third_Age_3, but it does NOT show up in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Medieval II Total War\mods spot, I have to copy paste it from the original TW folder to the steam one, Im not sure if thats causing the error or not.

After all this. and reinstalling and uninstalling twice....still crashing lol. Im a huge TW fan and when i accidently stumbled upon this mod I couldnt wait to play it. Sadly, I cant take over more than a city or two before I crash on a city and cant continue the campaign. Any help would be really appreciated!

Hi there and welcome to TWC Forums!

Upload your savegame, and if you don`t know how to upload your savegame, this is how:
Go to your saves folder in ..mods\ Third_Age_3 folder, if you have WinRar or WinZip program, make your savegame file as one of these two formats (.rar or .zip, right mouse click on the savegame file and click on `add to SAVEGAME.rar for example ) and instead Post Quick Reply, you go to Go Advanced, press this

button and upload your savegame.rar or .zip file directly from your PC\laptop to your post as an attachment .

Hello. im new to all this. Only just discovered the LOTR mod...i know.

I install the patches and get the 'Third Age encountered an unspecified error and will now exit.' when entering any battle.

I have tried several things, deleting certain files etc but still no joy. I would appreciate some help greatly.

If you have Windows 8, 7 or Vista, disable UAC as StealthFox instructed.

Hello everyone,

I seem to be having the same problem as Dshark. I'm playing a Rohan campaign and I've been able to play without any problems for about 30 turns. However, when I play a battle now I get the commonly known "Total war has encountered an unspecified error and will now exit"-error after playing about 2 minutes on the battle map. I've already deleted the "descr_georgraphy" files and turned the daylights savings time thing off. It's really annoying that I can't continue my campaign in this great mod, so some help on this would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, my enemy is bringing in one unit of reinforcements.

Well, this is a known bug with reinforcements, there are two solutions;
1. Installing a fix which IS NOT savegame compatible, you have to start a new campaign(download link for the fix can be found here + other info for TATW)

2. Open a cheat console and write auto_win [attacker/defender] ( depends are you attacker, then you put auto_win attacker ) more info on this here.

I turn the user account thingy of on my pc. does that work to or should i switch it back on and run the mod on admin ?

You can turn UAC back on if you want to, but before doing that, edit security for your M2TW main folder:
Go here and apply step 3 from section How to fix it. Sometimes when running as Administrator your M2TW won`t work, at least that was the problem in my case.
