Default Is Tyrion actually the son of Mad King Aerys? [SPOILERS]

I was reading ADwD and it was mentioned that Aerys had a thing for Tywin's wife, and took "liberties" at Tywin's wedding that Tywin wasn't happy with. Could Aerys have, at a later point, raped Lady Lannister and impregnated her with a certain dwarf child? Tywin may have wanted to kill Tyrion but his wife refused.

Explains Tywin's hatred of both Tyrion and The Mad King, possibly Tyrion's dwarfism (the Targaryeans are not known for their good genetics), and Tyrion's place in the story, as he might then be one of the three Dragon riders.

    Has anyone else thought this?

I hate that theory, its a totally weird idea and degrades Tyrion to a bastard. And secret Targs would get a bit too cliché.

Depends how you look at the aforementioned three headed dragon. Not sure if the heads of the dragon must be Targaryens but if so it would make this theory quite plausible. The only thing is Tywin and Tywin's wife were cousins so this crossing of genes could result in a deformity the same which had plagued the incest infested Targaryens. If the three heads happen to all be in some way related to the Targs i could see this as a definetly possibility. Tyrion through Aeyrs and Lyanna, Dany, and Jon Snow. Makes total sense. But so do a pajillion of other theories.

Everything makes it plausible; it's just up to GRRM to decide whether or not he goes/went that way.

I would hope he is a trueborn Lannister, though.

While it is not utterly impossible, the dates don't add up.

262 AL Aerys II is crowned, Tywin is named Hand of the King
266 AL Cersei and Jaime born
267 AL Tytos dies, Tywin inherits Casterly Rock
274 AL Tyrion born, Joanna dies
276+/-2 AL Defiance of Duskendale, Aerys II taken hostage and he begins to show major signs of paranoia.
276 AL Tywin holds a tourney at CR and proposes to wed Cersei to Rhaegar. Aerys refuses and their friendship cools.
278 AL Tywin hadn't given up yet as he brought Cersei to court with him in hopes of her and Rhaegar growing close. Unfortunately for the realm, Rhaegar was too busy being emo to notice.
281 AL Year of False Spring, the tourney at Harrenhal, Jaime is raised to the Kingsguard to serve as a hostage, Tywin resigns his office, and all hell breaks loose.

The year of Tywin's and Joanna's marriage is not given but with Aerys's First Night remark it can be assumed to have been after 262 but before 266. If Tywin was aware of any rape, he would have had to have learned of it before Joanna's death and if he did, it would seem it didn't really bother him as he was still on amiable enough terms to countenance marrying his daughter to Aerys's son 2 years later and waited 7 years before breaking off their relationship.

This is extremely unlikely. A more plausible reason for Tywin's hatred of Tyrion is his disgust with the fact that such a deformed creature could have come from him and his beloved wife when he clearly had a rather high opinion of himself and his family's bloodline, even worse than most Westerosi nobility.

I think he is also angry with the fact that the ugliest and lowest of the Lannisters has the wits to rule House Lannister better than any of his siblings after Tywin's death.

Also Tyrion is easy to make fun of and in consequence it's easier to make fun of House Lannister thanks to him. And all that whoring isn't helping either.

Tyrion did also kill Joanna in a way although it was in no way his fault.

if he did this at tywins wedding it would not be tyrion it would be jamie and cersi.......

and there has never been any hint as fair as im aware that that the king did anything after this.

many people can have a dwarf in the family you don't need an incest king for that..

be funny tho would mean danny marrying tyrion

Hmm yeah but again if deanery came back and took her throne not a single lannistar would be alive, and he would properly get it, for he's service.

He is not, and this is also not hinted in the books. It is however stated that Aerys 'allowed himself certain privileges' at Tywin's wedding. This along with Jaime's aunt saying something how Tyrion was Tywin's only son or something similar indicates that Jaime and Cersei could be Targaryen bastards with Tyrion being Tywin's only child. Would explain why Cersei's going insane now wouldn't it?

More likely but she's also a Mother who has lost her "beloved" son and her dear father and has been marched through the streets of King's Landing naked, I personally don't blame her for a bit of madness.
