Fatal graphics error

I did a search and tried several of the fixes i found in them to no avail. plus, I have some other issues. So, while some of these may or may not be pertinent to the Fatal Graphics Error, I am going to describe everything so that maybe someone can get a better idea of what's going on.

So I just re-installed MTW2 and the Kingdoms expansion. I had them on a different computer and re-installed them to my desktop. I used steam to install. After installing I used steam to verify cache integrity and what not, and everything was good to go. I click play and it brings up the dude with the sword and I can click "settings" on the left side of the window or "play" on the right. Clicking "settings" brings up a dialog box about

Continue brings up the proxy settings thing whereas quit obviously quits the game.


The second problem is that apparently I cannot reach the update server. In the initial launch window before I select play, there should be a "News Feed" of sorts there. Mine just says

I obviously have an internet connection because I just posted this and I am listening to music on myspace. Although I have an internet connection another dialog box opens saying That I have no internet connection and that I should check my proxy settings. This dialog box goes away in about 5 seconds. This box appears if I just launch the game and let it sit at the aforementioned window with the "news feed" or if i try and click play. If I click play then the game crashes, THEN I get the dialog box, or it will just pop up after about 30 seconds of the launcher sitting idle.

Then If I click play and choose MTW2 or the expansions (I tried doing this without expansions installed, with everything installed, by having MTW2 installed via steam by installing the expansions first) it starts to load up, half my screen goes black, then I get the Fatal Graphics Error. my error states that I should try lowering my settings before entering a battle etc, etc,. The thing is, I can't even load the game to possibly change any settings. And if my Acer laptop with a 2.2 GHz dual core and an Nvdia 220m and 2GB or RAM from 3 years ago could play this game then there is no reason my desktop shouldn't be able to.

I wouldn't think that graphics would be a problem since I can run BF3 on Ultra at like 50-90FPS depending and whats on screen. I have the latest drivers for my GPU's also.

I tried deleting the config file but it only has like 4 lines in it and deleting it changed nothing. I am at a loss as to what Is going on. Also, It is a legitimate copy purchased through steam. I don't have any pirated games on my machine at all. I don't have any No-CD cracked .exe's either.

Why would the laptop be more likely to run it? I don't have game profiles installed. also, I disabled crossfire and now when I click play it just says that application failed to start. it is already running.

Now it is back to the fatal graphics error. I tried running them as an administrator and i got the app already running error. unchecking that box and I have gone back to the Fatal Graphics Error.

The laptop has a better chance because it's closer to the gae's specs when it was released.
One member said he had luck installing C++ 2008 redistributable.

I will try that. do you think maybe running in compatibility mode might help?

I run in compatibility mode anyway. Anything older than 2007, I run this way. Any program that says "XP or better" I run this way.

I installed the C++ 2008 redistributable and I still get the error. I am at a loss as to why exactly this is happening. I just want to conquer Europe =*(

Steam version, have you verified the game cache?

My steam version is the current most up to date version. I don't know which exact version but I tried checking for updates and it says I have the up to date client. Also, I have verified the caches or MTW2 and Kingdoms several times.

The specs online for its resolution says 1366 x 768, an odd size if one exists.

Right-click your desktop, click monitor resolutions and post the list of available resolutions.

This game looks like at 1280 x 720 but the game does recognize it but it's a computer monitor I did it with. Been there, done that.

I can use all of them, but 820x600 and 1152x648 cut off some of the screen. I didn't get an "out of range" message unless you are referring to the one that tells me that using such and such resolution might not display everything.
