Default Is the Steam version of Medieval 2 more modfriendly than the retail version?

I have just installed the "Third age" Total war mod. The only problem is that I get the " Medieval II has encountered an unexpected error and will now exit" error every time I attack a Gondor army. I Get to the battlefield but every time they start shooting me with arrows.
I will of course try to get this fixed. But I have the hopeful (but most likely futile) idea that Medieval II with mods is more stable through Steam.

Is there even a hint of truth in this?

    Thanks for the help

I cant answer for sure, but i have seen quite a few threads in the SS subforum where people have issues and it is because of steam, so it probably is the other way around. I'd wait for someone else to answer for sure trough. By the way that first issue sounds just like the one i had in SS, it was related to the G5 RBAI which improves the battle AI and is a part of most big mods, i suggest you update it and see if you still get that issue http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=453503

The Benefit of Steam is that the game is always up to date. However steam doesn't really handle mod folders, and it may mess up the install paths of some mods.

Thanks for the help. I downloaded the "Really Bad AI" file and got through my first battle without any problems. It is only one battle though so I will play a bit more to see if the issue is resolved.
