Three men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was fatally stabbed in front of his girlfriend.

A fourth man is being held on suspicion of assisting an offender after David Charlton was killed in South Shields.

Detectives believe Mr Charlton got into an argument after leaving the Last Orders pub with his girlfriend.

He was pronounced dead after being taken to hospital.

Det Ch Insp Paul Young said: "A young man has lost his life and we are carrying out extensive inquiries to establish what happened and who is responsible.

"This includes checking CCTV in the area, speaking with witnesses and carrying out searches of the scene and surrounding area."

We must end this culture of violent knife crime for the safety of future generations.

1- some of us care deeply about society and those who are killed by violent thugs. If they did not have access to sharp pointy things then this would have never happened.

I say we put an armed guard with a knife on every street corner. And we legalize the carrying of butcher knives and perhaps even swords. Responsible sword owners dont commit crimes.

Four men jailed for murder of 17-year-old boy

Kelvin Chibueze was fatally stabbed in east London nightclub and then chased outside by attackers with bottles



Four men have been jailed for life for killing a 17-year-old boy who was chased out of a birthday party by attackers carrying champagne and brandy bottles.

Kelvin Chibueze was fatally stabbed inside the club where the party was being held.

He was chased again and attacked with glass and broken bottles, the Old Bailey heard. As he collapsed, Kelvin clutched his chest and said: "I can't breathe, I can't breathe."

Dale Williams, 21, was given a minimum term of 26 years, Lerone Boye, 26, was given 28 years, Roger Damali, 31, received 23 years and Hugo Nwankwo, 18, was given 16 years. The men, all from east London, were found guilty of murder last month.

The death followed a clash between two groups of males at the Arteflex Club in Ilford High Road, east London, in the early hours of 15 August last year.

Judge John Bevan condemned the wall of silence which surrounded the case. He said: "The veil of silence which has fallen over the main participants in this case speaks volumes as to the cowardice and moral bankruptcy on both sides of the parties.

"Witness after witness refused to speak out and avenge the death of their 17-year-od friend."

Richard Whittam QC, prosecuting, said that inside the club Kelvin had been confronted by youths brandishing knives.

A woman working at the bar saw people pushing backwards towards the bar.

Whittam said: "She then saw a number of 'boys' picking up champagne and Hennessy brandy bottles from the bar and running out of the club with them."

Outside the club, Kelvin's friends ran off and Kelvin was stabbed again by two men in an adjoining car park near Ilford police station. Police recovered four knives from the area which had traces of Kelvin's blood on them.

Whittam said: "The killing was brought about by the endemic carrying of knives by young men."

A postmortem examination found Kelvin died from the stab to the chest but he had also been stabbed on his left forearm, left buttock and on one of his palms.

Detective Sergeant Mark Romain, of the homicide and serious crime command, said later: "Kelvin Chibueze was ruthlessly attacked, chased and left to die.

"The violence used brutally ended a young man's life and showed scant regard for the safety of others in this busy venue."

In the US real criminals use guns anyway. Guess that means the US is better because criminals have guns and in the UK criminals mostly have knives.

Dont pretend it doesnt happen, granted both of these are in Asia, but they also both happened in countries with severe gun control. Removing guns does not prevent mass murder.

BEIJING (Reuters) - A knife-wielding man slashed 22 children and an adult at an elementary school in central China on Friday, state media reported, the latest in a series of attacks on schoolchildren in the country.

The man attacked the children at the gate of a school in Chenpeng village in Henan province, the Xinhua news agency reported.

Police arrested a 36-year-old man, identified as villager Min Yingjun, Xinhua said. It did not give further details of the extent of the injuries.

There have been a series of attacks on schools and schoolchildren around China in recent years, some by people who have lost their jobs or felt left out of the country's economic boom.

The rash of violence has prompted public calls for more measures to protect the young in a country where many couples only have one child.

In 2010, a man slashed 28 children, two teachers and a security guard in a kindergarten in eastern China.

Knife crime is actually pretty serious in England too, maybe its better to knife a priest and a 77 year old woman as happened last month.

The full extent of stabbings and robberies at knifepoint is made clear in the country's first census of knife crime.

Police recorded 5,023 serious knife crimes in England and Wales in the first three months after they began to count the offences as a separate crime category last spring. It is equivalent to about 400 offences per week.



The highest rate is in London, where every resident has a one-in-1,100 chance of falling victim over the course of a year.

Londoners stand more chance of being stabbed or robbed at knifepoint than of being killed or seriously injured in a road accident.
