Gold Edition is no different. First of all specify whether you want to run the default vanilla game or a particular mod in windowed mode as they use different cfg files. Lastly make sure you are adding the windowed command under the [video] section like this:
Code:[video] windowed = true
for vanilla
adding that doesnt work (I just mentioned in the title)
It's possibly Kingdoms only.
it works but how can I make it run without window borders?
Its really annoying during gameplay when you moved you mouse to the edges and goes beyong the game screen and screws you camera moveemnt
dont bother anymore.. borderless_window = true or 1
the same for windowed mode
however now the preference file is filled with all the setings for video,audio, network etc.Happened after I tried all these commands in the file and launched and relaunched Medieval ,I guess due to the fact that these were my 1st runs with the game right? do you guys have that file filled with all the settings caus ein the begining it was containing only those things shown in my original post
You start a campaign, it will generate one. If you don't set it to read-only, the game will rewrite it, again.
Mine is of all sorts of garbage.
If you want a CFG file (in the root) with default settings, then simply delete it. The game will generate a new one and modify it based on your settings in the 'options' sections when you start a game. Adjust the normal settings there to your liking before starting a game. Then exit the game and add\modify your custom settings and make it read-only - you are set.
Please remember that any change in settings inn the 'options' settings afterward will only apply to your current game and will revert to your initial setting the next game.
I just reinstalled medieval. Now I cant have that borderless windowed mode back.Damn dont know how I did it last time.
[video]
borderless_window = true
widescreen=0
windowed = true
[game]
allusers=1
and this file its not filling with all the options I mentioned above even I dont set ti as read only
deleted it but game doesnt generate a new one
I think it will only worked if I have all those options in the preference files and add windowed mode at the end

C:\Users\"Username"\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\SEGA\Medieval II Total War
I found the preference files there and this one has all the options. Added here the windowed = 1 at the bottom of the list and borderless_window = 1 (in its alphabetical order after bloom iirc , dont know if adding this line somewhere else would make a difference ) . This one needs to be put as read only also.
However the medieval root directory prefference file still acts strangely.
That's why I don't install the game with the UAC enabled. Even with Steam and Medieval2, I'd find someplace besides Program Files (x86) to install it for this reason alone.
You need to disable UAC if you want to fiddle with this game or install this game in a secondary partition. Otherwise all such files like cfg and save files etc will be placed in the virtual store folder. The game is reading the ones placed in virtual store folder. So deal with this before venturing further into M2TW.
You are right.. no wonder I couldnt even find my rome total war preferences file to get my UI mimized . It was on virtual store also. I disabled User acount control but now what? Should I reinstal these games ? I guess my preffrences , autosaves and battle replays files are still there but they will continued to be placed there?
They are obsolete now (files in the virtual store folder) as now your user has the permission to edit system files or create new files in that proper directory\folders. Just cut paste the files into the right location now if you don't want to go edit new files and do everything again.
There's really no need to reinstall if one wants to save all the progress in save games and the preferences etc. One just need to place them in the right folders now so that game can acknowledge them now from the proper game folder instead of virtual store folder. Like i said a cut paste & merge will do fine.
